Assisgnment-1 Questions
1. Explain the mechanism that can be used to deflect the electron beam in a CRT? Derive
the deflection sensitivity for the same.
2. In a CRT, the distance of the screen from the center of the magnetic field is 22cm. The
deflecting magnetic field of flux density 2x10-4 wb/m2 extends for a length of 2.5cm
along the tube axis. The final anode voltage is 1250V. Calculate the deflection of the
spot in cm.
3. Find the concentration of holes and electrons in p type Germanium at 300oK, if the
conductivity is 100/ohm-cm. Given ni =2.5x1013/cm3, n = 3800 cm2/V-sec, p = 1800
cm2/V-sec.
4. Explain about motion of a charged particle in a magnetic field.
5. Derive the expressions for carrier concentrations (n & p) and Fermi level in an intrinsic
Semiconductor.
6. The plates of a parallel plate capacitor are d meters apart. At t=0, an electron is released
at the bottom plate with a velocity v0 (m/sec) normal to the plates. The potential of the
top plate with respect to the bottom is Vm Sinwt.
(a) Find the position of the electron at any time t.
(b) Find the value of the electric filed intensity at the instant when the velocity of the
electron is zero.
7. Prove that the motion of an electron in a constant electric field is a parabola.
