Sport Pedagogy Lesson Plan Template (Elementary and Middle School)

Lesson Focus: Skill Themes: Track and Field Sprints

Equipment and Facilities: 20 colorful polly spots and


15 plastic colorful cones, 5 batons
The activity will take place on the black top.

Safety Considerations: The teacher will conduct the


activity in a quality learning environment. All
equipment used will be age appropriate and placed
in a safe manner to reduce the risk of any injuries.
Each student will be spaced out accordingly to help
prevent any conflict or injuries. The teacher will
verbally review the rules and expectations before the
start of the activity. Before the start of class, the
teacher will have knowledge of any health related
issues the students may have, which will be provided
by the school. If an emergency occur, the teacher will
remain calm while transporting the students to a safe
environment or shelter, based on the situation. If a
student is injured, the teacher will stop the activity
and have the students seated away from the injured
student while the teacher notifies the proper
authorities of the childs injuries. Each student will
be aware of the teachers signals (whistle). All
equipment will be placed on the ground/ floor while
the teacher is providing instructions and the students
hands will be placed on or above their heads.

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies: The activities will begin

Teaching Strategy: I will start the lesson using the
command style teaching strategy. The instruction will
be provided by using an interactive approach and
verbal cues to assist the students in understanding
the techniques that will be used during the activities.

Objectives:

Academic Language: The key terms use will be toes,


arms, extend, stride, sprint, rotating, peripheral
vision, and locked wrist. These terms will be used
during practice and game play.

Psychomotor (P): SWBAT demonstrate the COTS for sprinting, jogging, and strides 80 % of
the time.
Cognitive (C): SWBAT recognize the COTS and recite the COTS for sprinting, jogging, and
strides with 90% accuracy.
H-R Fitness (H): SWBAT maintain MVPA of 50% while staying active the duration of the
class.
Objectives contain: A (audience), B (behavior), C (condition), and D (degree)

Lesson Core - Task 2 Competitions:

Students will practice the three


stages of transitioning; jog, stride,
sprint. They will be placed into 5
groups of 4. The first person in line
will start off with the baton. They
will jog to the first cone and back
then pass the baton off to the next
person in line. The second person in
line will stride to the second cone
and back, and then pass the baton
to the next person in line. The third
person in line will spring to the third
cone and back, and then pass the
baton to the fourth person in line.
The fourth person will jog to the
first line stride to the second line,
and spring to the third line crossing
the finish line.

ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES: While students are demonstrating the COTS for the sprinting, jogging, and
striding. The teacher will assess the students techniques using a formal assessment. The group who is spotted
doing the technique correctly will be used as a demonstration.
