I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes):
The third grade students will determine how rocks are useful to humans by listings all
the ways rocks are used to help humans.

A. Prerequisite skills

2. Students will be asked to classify objects into groups.

Most vocabulary has been in covered in previous lessons.

petrified form as a mold or cast in rock.

1.Rocks are used in our everyday surroundings.

a. Rocks are everywhere in our surroundings.

IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
1.The teacher will begin by reading If You Find a Rock by Peggy
Christian
B. Development
1. The teacher will begin by saying for homework you were asked to
look at your surroundings and see how rocks are being used? Stop
and allow the students to discuss.
2. The students will then have a small discussion on how rocks are used
in their everyday surroundings.
3. The teacher will then ask them to say some the things they thought of
and you will proceed by listing them on the board.
4. The teacher will then say, We are going to play a game online and
you guys are going to help me categorize these items.

5. The teacher will now give the class the rock checklist worksheet.(See
attached)
6. Students will spread into groups and complete the worksheet.
7. The teacher will go over the worksheet with the students.
8. The teacher will now play a video from YouTube.

10. The teacher will hand out the guided notes worksheet. (See attached)

C. Closure
The teacher will say for homework I want you guys to think about
crystals and where we can find them, Ill give you a hint you have crystals
in your house and they may be used everyday
D. Accommodations/Differentiation
1. To accommodate Monica an ELL guided notes will be given in her native
language. So that important vocabulary will be understood.
2. Guided notes and detailed instructions will be provided to all students.
E. Assessment/Evaluation Plan
1. Formative
a. The teacher will collect the guided notes from the video.
This assignment will be graded making sure that all the correct
word are in the right spots, just like the teacher copy.
2.Summative
a. Test will be given at the end of the unit.
