IEP Assignment
My report is based on a fourth grade student with Autism. Because the child with
Autism is between the ages of 3-21 an IEP would be required according to IDEA. An
IFSP is generally used from birth until the age of 3, therefore, not appropriate for
this child. An IEP is important and should be conducted in the LRE possible for the
child so the child can achieve as much as possible where there deficits. The
contents of the IEP would contain:

Social Issues Goals and Objectives

Behavioral or Self-regulation Goals and Objectives
Academic or Organizational and Work Skills Goals and Objectives
Specific Strategies or Assistive Technologies to complete the Goals and

Objectives
Services to be Rendered
Address Where Student can Go to Achieve Goals

Before creating an IEP it is important that the IEP team get to know the child.
The child has to be evaluated and determined that there is a disability. Once a
disability has been established the IEP process is as follows:
Initial IEP meeting with team, parents, teachers and student.
Measure where the child is currently in the areas of social, behavioral and
academics.
For every area of deficit or need a goal is needed to be created for that
need.
Determine what support is needed and how much either full time or
partial time.
Identify where the student will be completing and reaching goals.
