Professor Alfredo Martnez Expsito, Head of the School of Languages and Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, University of
Melbourne
Alfredo Martnez Expsito is a professor of Spanish at the University of Melbourne and Fellow of the Australian Academy of
Humanities. He has published extensively on Spanish and Latin American literature and film, with a focus on representations
of the body, sexual politics and nation branding. He has been president of the Association for Iberian and Latin American
Studies of Australasia (AILASA), member of the Australia-Spain Cultural Cooperation Program, and head of language
departments at the Universities of Melbourne and Queensland. He received the Spanish Order of Civil Merit in 2009 for his
contribution to the promotion of Spanish in Australia.
Dr Jos Gmez Asencio, Professor, Department of Spanish Language, University of Salamanca
Jos J. Gmez Asencio, from Spain, received his doctorate from the Universidad de Salamanca (1980). He is a Professor in
Lengua Espaola at the Universidad de Salamanca since 1989. He has delivered lectures, courses, and seminars on a wide
range of topics within the following research fields in many universities. These topics include: acquisition and teaching
Spanish as a foreign language; synchronic Syntax of standard Spanish; historiography of grammatical and linguistic ideas in
Spain; synchronic Spanish phonetics and phonology. He has published books and articles on the above-mentioned topics.
Mrs Teresa Reay, Teacher of Spanish and French, Wingham High School and Great Lakes College Senior Campus
A teacher of Modern Languages in various schools in Australia, Spain and Hong Kong. Has taught Spanish, French,
Japanese and EFL at various levels from Kindergarten to adults. Currently teaching Spanish and French to Year 11 & 12
students at Great Lakes College in Tuncurry, but based in Wingham High School. Won 3rd prize in the international
competition El Espaol Global III Congreso Internacional del Espaol in Salamanca in 2013.
Dr Hugo Hortiguera, Spanish Studies, School of Languages and Linguistics, Griffith University
Dr. Hugo Hortiguera was awarded his PhD by the University of New South Wales in 1999. He currently teaches and
convenes Spanish courses as a second language at Griffith University. His research interests are Spanish as a second
language, Argentine cultural studies and popular culture, Latin American literary studies and media discourse. He has
published in the US, Australia, Argentina, Cuba, Spain, Mexico, and Israel.
Mrs Cecilia King, Teacher of Spanish, Instituto Cervantes
Cecilia studied in Buenos Aires and has taught Spanish in Belgium, England, Spain and Australia. She currently teaches
Spanish to children at the Instituto Cervantes in Sydney.
Dr ngel Lpez-Snchez, Spanish Astrophysicist, Australian Astronomical Observatory / Macquarie University
Dr ngel Lpez-Snchezs research is focused in the analysis of star formation phenomena in galaxies of the Local
Universe, especially in dwarf starbursts and spiral galaxies. He has experience teaching and supporting undergraduate and
PhD students and giving lectures and classes about Astronomy.
Dr Celina Bortolotto, Lecturer in Spanish, University of New England NSW & University of New Zealand
Dr Celina Bortolotto is an Adjunct Lecturer in Spanish at the University of New England, Armidale, NSW, and Lecturer in
Spanish at Massey University of New Zealand. She teaches Spanish language, phonetics, and translation. Her research
focuses on the interrelation between cultural values and individual emotions as it is represented in literary fiction.
Dr Jose Daz Rodrguez, Lecturer in Spanish, University of New England NSW & University of New Zealand
Dr Jose Daz Rodrguez is an Adjunct Lecturer in Spanish at the University of New England, Armidale, NSW, and Lecturer in
Spanish at Massey University of New Zealand. He teaches Spanish language and cultural studies. His research interests
include Spanish and Filipino Cultural Studies, Cultural Representation, Postcolonialism, Intercultural Exchanges, and the
promotion of culture in transnational contexts.
Mr Pablo Mateu Garca, Education Advisor, Office of Education, Embassy of Spain in New Zealand
Pablo Mateu Garca is the education advisor of the Office of Education of the Spanish Embassy in Wellington since
February 2012. He is also the ILEP Spanish National Adviser in New Zealand and therefore he is linked to the New Zealand
Ministry of Education. He has worked as a language teacher, a teacher trainer and a language adviser in the following
countries: Spain, UK, USA and New Zealand.
