Today I was scrolling through my Facebook and stumbled upon a post my coworker
stating Dont be afraid of death, be afraid of an unlived life. That statement caught my
attention in couple of ways. We as humans are born to die, it is inevitable. In my opinion
I think my coworker was trying to deliver his message in a straightforward manner. With
that being said, to me he was trying to encourage people to have fun and seize the day,
Carpe Diem. The post appealed to me emotionally because it reminds me that we, as a
society, have so much going on at once that we lose sight have of being able to relax and
enjoy the day. Priorities have become our main focus. We have bills, school or whatever
else keeps us from having a well lived life. In the end I hit the like button and continued
to scroll down.

Today while waiting for class to start I saw a post on Facebook that someone shared
about the guy who shot the reporter and the camera man as well as the women being
interviewed. The shooter was allegedly an employee that was fired due to HR reasons.
The killers name was Vester Flanagan, he worked with the female reporter a few times
and she reported him for foul behavior according to the New York Post. That was the
reason for his retaliation which ended up in him killing the reporter and the camera man
and living the women being interviewed in the hospital. The frustrating thing about the
situation is people trying to make it a race matter in the middle of the issue our country is
having with enforcement regarding race. I do not believe the attack was a racial hate
crime. I believe it was an act of retaliation.

I was on my phone when I was on Facebook and saw the Kanye West album cover which
was very controversial. Kanye has numerous things on the front of the cover that depict a
message of some sort. First, he has a crown of thorns around his head to symbolize he is a
god. The album cover than shows three women two white and one black, the black one
being the snake out of the three. In the middle of the album cover the cross is upside
down which is a sign for the devil. With that being said Kanye is sitting next to a person
with a red hand which I would assume to be the devil himself. By just showing his hand I
think that means the devil has his hands in things when it comes to the music business.

I have used many school related websites that allows students to interact with each other
on a digital platform, the main one is web courses. Web course is the one I use in relation
to my UCF homework assignment. When I was attending Valencia community college
the site was called atlas Valencia. There are many variations and names, but they all have
the same goal of opening a digital doorway to education. Web course allows you to view
assignments announcements, and any discussion taking place in any your courses. When
viewing your assignment the website shows your objectives in order to complete the
assignment. When viewing an announcement it will bring you the discussion board where
that announcement was posted to show any potentially helpful comments. Lastly, it
allows students effectively stay updated and in tune with their course and syllabus.

I was on Facebook while waiting for the football games to start when I saw an article
about a young kid that was a rapper and he was the rebirth of rap. This kid was 17 years
old with an old school flow and had an old school type of lyrical content to it. Present day
Hip Hop mostly has a nice beat to get your head moving but the lyrical content is
horrible. Hip Hop use to have artist coming from the West, East, South, and North. Artist
mainly come from Atlanta, Georgia, which is not a problem, but that is not the place
where Hip Hop came from. Some people do not even listen to music anymore because
either they cant understand what the people are saying or lyrical content is annoying and
repetitive.

For a couple of years now my friends have asked to play fantasy football. This is a new
form of the game that allows you to choose which players you specifically want on your
team. The player has to deposit money into the account and enter into a contest hoping
that the team wins and receive the prize of the money pot. Today on facebook I saw one
of my friends post something about his team winning and hoping to win some money
again this time. I did not think that you could actually win money. I decided to try it and
create a team of my own considering you could actually win money. Before seeing the
post I was very skeptical about whether or not I wanted to play because I wanted to win
money. The post I saw on facebook made the fantasy football app a lot more creditable.

I started using this new app on my phone that allows you to chat with a group of people.
This app is useful if you need communicate with a group for a project or teammates like
in my case. The app is a digital platform that allows you to create a group chat by sending
the invite and you accept it and join. Whenever you create your profile you can sign in
through facebook or twitter etc. The app automatically uploads your picture from your
social media profile. The thing that amazes me is the ability to communicate through a
digital platform so conveniently. This app allows you to pass a message along to
everyone in a group with no hassle. It allows my teammates and I to talk to arrange
practice, talk about plays, etc. The people who created this thought about having a digital
space to communicate effectively in a way that everybody can just download the app
without exchanging personal information.

Today I was on my phone scrolling through facebook and saw a post saying Facebook
need to shut down for a year so people can go back to being themselves. This post made
me think of would actually happen if Facebook was shut down for a whole year. I would
be fine because I only use it to stay in contact with old friends and family. Facebook is
the biggest digital environment anyone can access anywhere in the world with the use of
the internet. Video, Images, and Text which are all forms of digital rhetoric. Facebook
allows you express your thoughts by posting comments on those exact rhetoric channels.
As well as like the post with the cock of a button. Facebook has become a part of
peoples daily routine from when they wake up to when they go to bed. When people go
on vacation they take photos for memories which they then post to facebook. People take
quizzes to see a variety of things from their soulmate, telling someones personality.
Facebook has completely taken the physical conscience to the digital world.

While I was scrolling down my Facebook newsfeed today, I saw a video about a young
boy that had multiple seizures a day. The boy was taking twenty two medications a day
and having many side effects. The boys father decided to try and treat the boy with
medical marijuana. The first day he tried medical marijuana he went all day with no
seizures. The father started slowly weaning the boy off his medications. The boy had to
endure withdrawals from benzo medications and seemed to be much more active without
the medication and the use of the medical marijuana. The medical marijuana that the
father used was at a low level of THC that does not give the euphoria effect. This video
appealed to me in a pathos and ethos manner. The video was emotional when it showed
everything the boy had been going through at such a young age and the father was trying
everything to treat him and have him be able to successfully communicate one day. The
video also reflected ethos because the dad gave facts on how many medications his son
was on originally compared to the solution he found in medical marijuana and being able
to stop many medications.

Today while I was waiting for my food at Pizza Hut, I saw a post on my phone showing a
shirt that said Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither one gives a shit about
you! I found that hilarious for a few reasons. We are obligated to choose a side, either
red or blue and vote for a candidate that is worthy enough based on his credentials, to
represent the people. The thing is the people know that they are not part of the big
picture. Actions speak louder than words is a phrase that our government has abused very
well. Every person that believes in what a political individual promises either sees results,
or does not. With that being said, when our government has constantly dropped the ball,
the people begin to catch and understand that they really do not care about them. I do
believe that there are some people that work in politics that do actually care about the
people, but if you cannot beat them then join them.

Today is a crazy day in the history of the United States because of what happened in New
York City to the Twin Towers. The terrorist attack resulted in thousands of deaths
including workers from the building and surrounding area. People had to survive in any
way possible, even jumping to their death out of a window, hoping to live through this

horrific nightmare. Police officers, fire fighters, and anyone willing to help, began to get
people out of the rubble and some even sacrificed their lives to save another. On facebook
today, I saw a post showing a video about Jon Stewart pushing for the extension for the
healthcare for the first responders that had fatal after effects of the attacks. It shocked me
that someone that was a comedian was so devoted to supporting those people. I believe
that those are the morals that everyone should have. It shows that the people care about
each other and are willing to fight for a cause.

I recently downloaded the Wall Street Journal application that allows me to view the most
recent topic as well as search for titles using the search bar. I use this application on my
phone mostly when I have down time to read an article. This application makes viewing
and reading news convenient for me because my phone is what I use the most when it
comes to digital devices. The app became very useful for my business class that required
us to read and analyze the article. The app allows you to highlight as well, so you can
make any marks for notes. This digital platform was made in favor of people who are
always on their phone, tablet, or laptop. In this present time, most apps and devices
connect people more to electronics and the digital world.
Summary
The digital diary was a fun experience because it showed the different topics and types of
digital environments that intrigued me. Each day I talked about something different, but
sometimes on the same platform. Whenever I was on Facebook, topics that were
remediations, or remixes, caught my attention. For example, Kanye West album cover
using the Garden of Eden to portray a message. Another example was the racism issue
that began to fall on the reporter brutally shooting his ex-co-workers after being fired.
The situation was a clear act of vengeance. Each topic appealed to me differently
provoking each: logos, pathos, and ethos. That began to show each time I wrote about a
different topic I found on a digital environment. I noticed that I began to notice how the
style of the topic was the reason I was interested. With each topic, it expressed how
people were creative and invented something. Being the audience and analyzing the
digital environments I normally visit in a different light kind of makes me appreciate the
thought behind the project. Overall, this project has shown me how to analyze an article
and decide what kind of appeal it satisfies. When I am in a digital environment I can
recognize the type of rhetoric appeal and rhetorical canon that are being used.
