Store and forward is a telecommunications technique in which information is sent to an intermediate station
where it is kept and sent at a later time to the final destination or to another intermediate
station.

4. Explain the following email protocols used.


Acronym

Description

Simple mail transfer protocol

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. SMTP is used when
email is delivered from an email client, such as Outlook Express, to an
email server or when email is delivered from one email server to
another. SMTP uses port 25.

POP3

OP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) is the most recent version of a standard


protocol for receiving e-mail. POP3 is a client/server protocol in which
e-mail is received and held for you by your Internet server.

Internet mail access protocol

IMAP

IMAP is the most recent protocol than POP. IMAP allows a two way
synchronization between the email client you use and your Zoho Mai
account. IMAP is also recomended when you want to access the same
account from multiple email clients.

6. Explain how you would add an attachment to an email message. Use bullet points rather than writing a
sentence / paragraph.
Open your e-mail program, launch a new message window and compose your message. 2. Click the attachment
icon (the paper clip) or insert the file by selecting from the drop-down menu. 3.Browse your hard drive or
removable disks to locate the file you want to attach
