1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality)
Oh boy! Um, reality typically is that in any area, youre going to be under staffed so you come into this
field, you feel like you really want to help people, and take care of them and you can do it its just you dont have
the amount of time you think in a fantasy world. You really have to work on time management
2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?
(educational level and requirements)
Um, I have a bachelors in nursing, and I have a certification in emergency nursing, which is where I
started. And each year, well every four years for that I have to do one-hundred continuing education hours, and for
us we just have to stay up to date and in our neurology clinic we have a yearly um, conference where we have to
go to which is over the weekend.

3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities)
Hmm, well this type of nursing in the pain and neurology clinic we spend a lot of time on the phone with
the patients, doing refills, doing assessment calls and making sure their needs are met.
4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?
(job security)
I feel secure and in the future, hmm, um probably similar to the present. Everyone always needs
medication for pain

Revised Fall 2013

5. What is a typical (average or lowest to highest) salary of someone working in your field?
(salary)
Um, it depends on the years of experience youve had. But, Id say anywhere from $50,000-$75,000 a
year.

6. What potential for growth is there in your field?

(growth potential)
Oh, there is always new technology coming out, especially in pain management. Like new pain delivery
and maintenance like pumps, stimulators in neurology. There is always new kinds of technology!
***Questions 7-10 will be created by the ISM student.
7.

Why did you choose this particular setting compared to others available?

I choose to work with UTMB because um, it gave me more time off because of my experience. I choose
not to have my own clinic because it takes a lot of work to get it running and a lot of hours out of the week.

8. How long have you worked in the health care setting?

Well, I began working just at the front desk at UTMB right after college while in nursing school, so Id
say um, 8-9 years!

9. Do you thoroughly enjoy what you do?

Oh yes, I wouldnt want to do anything else! I love working with people and making sure all needs are
met.

10. Is this the job youve always wanted to do?

Yes, for as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a nurse
