KIDNEY

Kidneys are a pair of

organs located in the
back of abdomen

Each kidney is
about 4 or 5 inches
long about the size
of a fist

Kidneys filter blood, they

create urine which collect
in the bladder

In the production
of urine, the
kidneys excrete
wastes such as
urea and
ammonium

Kidneys also produce

hormones including
calcitriol and
erythropoietin

Kidney balancing the electrolyte

levels in the body, controlling
blood pressure, and stimulating
the production of RBC

Diseases of kidneys are

nephritic and nephrotic
syndromes, renal cysts,
acute kidney injury,
chronic kidney disease,
UTI.

Dialysis and kidney

transplantation may be
treatment options.
