Military facts:
-As of 2010, there are
2,266,883 troops that
serve in the US military.
-Even when we are not in
an active war, we have
over 160,000 active
soldiers deployed
throughout the world.
-Nearly 20% of service
members in Iraq and
Afghanistan experience
acute stress, depression,
and/or anxiety. Getting
thank-you notes has a
positive impact on
soldiers.

Ideas for Preschool
-10 Veterans Day Words
(Navy, Marines, Army, soldier, marching,
fighter, flag, defend, honor, service)
-Learn the Pledge and talk about why we
put our hands on our hearts. Make a flag
with handprints.
-Make thank you notes, and write down
what the children say to the soldiers.

-Collect, create and send care packages.
-Have pen pals between children and
soldiers.
-Community day
Plant flowers around a flagpole.
Place flags around local area.
-Read the constitution, and create a
classroom constitution.

Culture
On a weekly basis go have
students talk about the
things they are thankful
for.
Have a armed force, or
veteran visit the
classroom in uniform.
Hang the American flag
where everyone can see it
at all times.
Read patriotic books on a
regular basis, and not just
the holidays.
Have the class participate
in a long-term community
missions such as
collecting canned goods
through out the year and
delivering them to the
local VA.
Create lesson plans
around community
support.
Instill the importance of
students civic
responsibility in the
school, home, and
community.
