Dear Principal Matthews:

It is with great interest and excitement that I am applying for an English teaching position at your
high school. I have a Bachelors of Secondary Education and additionally, a Bachelors of English
from Arizona State University. My teaching experience spans across multiple rewarding
internships in the last 4 years including middle schools, charter schools, and high schools in the
Phoenix Union and Dysart school districts.
Clear, concise, and positive communication is key in building relationships between teaching
faculty, students, and parents. It is my core belief to communicate effectively with parents and
students to ensure that everyone is on the same page and thoroughly understand classroom and
curriculum expectations. Building positive communication and rapport in academic relationships
also assists in the creation of a safe and productive environment to ensure student and
schoolwide success. It is a personal conviction to regularly demonstrate to students and parents
my sincere willingness and investment in education. I also expect to actively communicate with
parents in providing the essential information they need to invest in their children so that
education opportunities extend past the classroom.
English is a significant topic of study for high school students. As an educator I am excited to use
my skills and knowledge of the English language and pedagogy to create an exciting and
rigorous curriculum to ensure student growth. In agreement with the theories and research
conducted by Madeline Hunter, Dr. Fred Jones, and Dr. Harry Wong, I believe that every
decision a teacher makes influences the success of a classroom. There is no reason a classroom
cannot be managed and there is no such thing as children that cannot be reached. The
responsibility lies with me as an educator to create a healthy learning environment and to be able
to make every adjustment and accommodation necessary to improve upon my instruction in the
classroom. I plan of differentiating my instruction to meet the specific needs of my diverse
classroom. It is my duty to meet the unique needs of every child and help all students regardless
of ethnicity, economic status, and English proficiency, enjoy and be able to take advantage of all
the benefits education and knowledge provide in order to tackle both the adversity and
opportunities the future holds.
I look forward to your reply. Perhaps we can schedule a meeting to discuss in detail how I can
contribute to your school. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely

Sara Hendricks

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the new school year. I hope you all enjoyed your summer with your children. My
name is Ms. Hendricks and I will be your childs English teacher this year. I have Bachelors in
Secondary Education as well as Bachelors in English. I grew up in Oklahoma City, OK, but have
spent most of my educational life right here In Arizona where I graduated from Arizona State
University in 2016. I have three years of experience in the classroom and have worked with
schools including Camelback and Dysart High School before becoming a teacher at this school.
We have an exciting and rigorous curriculum this year and will be covering early to modern U.S.
literature including loved classics such as The Great Gatsby and The Catcher in the Rye. I will
also be working with your student on refining their writing on pieces of the persuasive,
informative, and narrative nature. Some techniques I use include anchor activities, mixed groups,
think-pair-share, self-reflection, and literature circles.
Our classroom is a positive and safe one in which students are encouraged to build one another
up through mutual respect and share their unique skills in order to help one another improve
academically in order to become successful. I have an open door policy which means that I look
forward to open and healthy conversations with parents as we both have the best interest of the
student at heart.
I look forward to working with your students and seeing them continue their path in education as
well as through life. I am available to reach through the school phone or my school e-mail during
regular school hours so please feel free to e-mail me about any questions or concerns you have
for your child.
Sincerely,

Ms. Hendricks

Dear Ms. Smith,

I have the pleasure of having your student, Gustave in my English class this year. Gustave is an
absolute delight to have in class and adds a certain sense of humor to keep things upbeat and fun.
Lately, Gustave has not turned in numerous homework assignments and his grade has lowered as
a result. When I asked Gustave about why he was not getting his assignments done he admitted
that he would often forget about them or not remember the directions of the assignment. This
could also be due to the fact that Gustave has made a lot of friends in class and tends to chat
more often than pay attention to instruction.
To help keep Gustave on task and talk less in class, I have moved his seat closer to the front as
well as given him his first warning as it would be bad for this behavior to distract other students.
In order to help Gustave remember his assignments I have provided him with a small notepad in
which I am having him write down his homework assignments before he leaves class each day. I
hope this will help Gustave stay organized so that he can get his assignments done on time and
so that his grade will improve. For the first week, I am hoping that you will check Gustaves
agenda daily and sign it in order to help build this habit for him. I think that having both his
teacher and parent knowing about these assignments will help Gustave remain accountable.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Enclosed is a list of assignments that Gustave has
not turned in. The documents are available on the school website if Gustave would like to
complete them for partial credit. I look forward to seeing Gustaves progress. Thank you for
taking your time to read my letter.
Sincerely,
Ms. Hendricks
