Big Idea Statement

Occupations are a part of daily life.
Every occupation has an importance.
Every occupation has pros and cons.
Essential Questions
What does your occupation do?
What are the pros and what are the cons?
How much does your occupation make?
Key Vocabulary
Occupation, salary
Pre-Assessment of Students
I will then use a random selection. As the students name
is called they will pick an occupation off of the board.
(Each student will have a different occupation.) They will
then say anything they know about the occupation.
Modeling of the Concept
I will provide the students with a template. The template
will have the information they need to find. I will then
have students make a large picture of a person that is
dressed for their occupation.
Transition
We will then move to the computer lab.
Guiding the Practice
I will show the students a list of websites that are
appropriate for this activity.
Providing the Independent Practice
Students will then conduct their research on their
occupation. They will look for the job description, salary,
work schedule, and working conditions. Then, students
will find a way to write their information on their
drawings.
Adaptations/Accommodations for Students with Special Needs
For the large drawing I will provide a template. Websites
will be on the page they need to find the information.
Computers
Template
Paper, markers, crayons, scissors
Chalkboard

Summary & Review of the Learning

After the students are done with their research and
crafting they will present their findings to the class.
Homework/Assignments
Students will need to find a place in the community that
someone with their occupation works. We will be taking
some fieldtrips to local places and asking others to come
into the class to talk in the upcoming weeks.
