1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality)
The fantasies of this job include many thoughts of easy big ideas and research of simple cells and looking into
microscopes. However the reality of medical research is that there is constant failure, always guided by people
from other researchers.

2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?

She has a bachelors degree and is an MD, Ph.D. candidate.
3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities)
Two days of the week she goes to seminar group discussions for her classes in biology. The other 3 days she is
running statistics and data bases within the UTMB research building.
4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?
(job security)
There are no concerns for job security as a graduate student. The future of her field however she expects to be
looking at more health disparities and the questions of why they exist.

5. What is a typical (average or lowest to highest) salary of someone working in your field?

The typical salary for someone that is a graduate student working within the conditions of the medical laboratory
get a compensation around $27,000 a year.

6. What potential for growth is there in your field?

The growth is to become more apparent with the health problems of the world to develop more research facilities
and opportunities to be able to start more projects that allow

7. What is your favorite part about your job?
Knowing the work that is made within these laboratories can make a difference within the world and help the
people advance into better health.

8. What is one thing you would like to change?


She would like to change the aspect of being able to be more independent as she feels like she is always being
under a microscope of her actions within the lab.

9. Would you recommend your occupation to other individuals in the future?


The individuals that would succeed well within this field are the ones that are committed to their work with good
patience that do not give up easily within their project because failure is inevitable.

10. Given experience from your work, would you stick with your career choice if given the opportunity to
choose another?

No, because she loves her job and the medical field always provides her with new interests and activities
that will seem to never end with boredom.
