Benitez, Jaime. "Parental Influences on the Career Choices & Decision-Making of Adolescents."
LIVESTRONG.COM. LIVESTRONG.COM, 24 Aug. 2013. Web. 27 Oct. 2015.
Jaime Benitez is an author that has been writing parenting handbooks since 2010. She has
also worked in the child wellness field for over 20 years. Jaime has also worked with kids
in a very close setting where she has seen that young teens have made decisions
influenced by their family members.
This is a secondary source: This article explains the importance of communication
parents should have with their young teenage kids. When communicating with them the
parents must learn to understand the childs decision making when choosing their career.
In this article it also talks about how without commination with the young teens you can
send them straight to the wrong path. This can cause the child to not want to continue
with school or just plain give up easily. This article also helps explains how parents can
guide their kids in the right path when choosing their career. In this article also talked
about parents career decisions influencing the future of their kids. By this what I mean is
that simply there are many kids that would like to follow into their parents footsteps with
the same career or they can go the complete opposite way and choice a different career.

Vasquez, Iveth. My personal experience. 16 June.2012

I will be my primary source while doing my research because as a young teenager I have
made current decisions that have affected my family in both positive and negative ways. I
have also passed the stage of going against everything my parents say and thinking
everything I do is good for me but dont think on the other people I have around me.
Therefor I have personal experience with my topic.
This is a primary source: My personal experience started June 16, 2012. I remember this
day so clearly it was the day my parents and I for the very first time sat down to talk
about my future. I was starting high school as junior. And I remember my parents face
expressions they werent happy at all. This is because over the last few months I had been
making current decision that had affected me in school as well as outside. As any crazy
teenager I had begun to skip school and just not care about anything that had to do with
school. I wouldnt even go as much anymore. This was because according to me I had
fell in love with the one guy that was amazing to me. Although he wasnt the best in my
life because he affected me in a negative way. I remember my dad saying Do you really
think that everything you only affects you? And all I did was look down and couldnt

reply to him. I saw my mother with tears in her eyes that day and with a look of
disappointment in the face towards me. All my mother said was We only want what is
best for you. We only want you to have a better life than the one we had. We want you to
have a good job where you dont have to depend off no guy that has to look out for you.
Being my parents only child I felt terrible. I felt like I had let my parents down when they
didnt deserve everything I was doing because they only wanted whats best for me. From
this day forward my life changed. I changed. My mothers words played backed in my
mind constantly. I had this so fresh in mind every day and told myself I wouldnt skip
school and that my goal was to get As and Bs. And thats exactly what I did. I improved
in school although by this time the guy I thought was the love of my life had drifted
completely away from me. I missed him but my parents were much more important to me
than any other guy. So yes I personally know that as a young teenager we affect our
family around us.

Into the Wild. Dir. Sean Penn. Perf. Christopher McCandless. 2007. DVD.
Christopher McCandless was a college graduate that left everything behind to start a new
life. He gave his 24,000 saving to charity. He left everything behind without letting his
family where he would be or when he was to come back. It was as if he left society
without a mark or a clue where he was located. When making this decision in starting a
new life without judgments he wanted to reach a goal. Which was to go to Alaska.
This is a secondary: This movie demonstrates how Christopher graduates from collage at
the beginning and as his parents take him to celebrate his graduation while have launch
his parents are talking to him about what he is to do now with his life. As the movie goes
on Chris moves out to an apartment where he cuts up his documents like his drivers
license, social security, and bank cards. He also gives his 24,000 savings check to charity.
As the movie continues he leaves everything in the past including his family. He also
starts a life with a new identity to live his life as an adventure. And also to complete his
goal which is to go to Alaska. Meanwhile his family has no clue where he is at. And
throughout the whole movie you can see they are affected by their sons decision. His
mother sees him everywhere in any person that lives in the streets as a bum. And his
father at the end of the movie runs out of his house and cries in the middle of the street
for his son who he knows nothing about for this long period of time.
Vig, Deepika, and I. J. S. Jaswal. "Relationship between Social Maturity of Parents and
Family Relationships as Perceived by Teenagers." Indian Journal of Health and
Wellbeing 4.4 (2013): 814-6. ProQuest. Web. 30 Oct. 2015.
The authors Vig Deepika and Jaswal are both specialist who work with young teenagers
and help families face the teen stage with the way teenage kids act. They have worked in
this field for quite some time now. Both authors have seen how the teens psychological
mentality works as well as how they take the decisions. They also study the other half of
the research which are the parents and how they are affected when their kids are going
through this stage in their life.

This is a secondary source: This article explains the way society views the adolescences
maturity level. It also talks about how many teens take current decisions because they are
peered pressured to so. When the young teen is peered pressured to something he does
not think this decision can not only affect his but also the people around him or her. In
this article I also found out that the view society has on teenagers is not the best. I say this
because in the article it is explains that society looks down on the decisions that young
people make. So our society only looks at the negative side they dont see that not all
teenagers are the same. This article also says that the young teenager dont have the
maturity to take right decisions until they are at least 22 years old.
Scalici, Francesca, and Peter J. Schulz. "Influence of Perceived Parent and Peer
Endorsement on Adolescent Smoking Intentions: Parents have More Say, but their
Influence Wanes as Kids Get Older." PLoS One 9.7 (2014)ProQuest. Web. 30 Oct.
2015.
The authors Francesca and Schulz are psychologist who studied the adolescence mind set
on smoking as well as making other decisions. Up to 2014 they had done 3 studies which
show that young teenagers are easily influenced by other peers. The study also shows that
teenagers can become less influenced if their parents have more communication with
them. With this study they also found out the way to prevent teenagers wrong decision
making.
This is a secondary source: In this article the main points are that they focus on are how
peers affect a teenager lives. It also explains that most teens have been peered pressured
into making the wrong decisions like smoking, drinking alcohol, and skipping school.
Within this article I also found out way to prevent young teens from making the wrong
choices. The number one solution is that the parents have a well-established commination
with their child and that they know what is going on in their life. Something that also
helps is that the parents get to know their childs friends. This is related to my topic
because parents influence in a child life can help the child get through the rough teenage
years without having to regret something.
Kaur, Anupriya, and Yajulu Medury. "SEM Approach to Teen Influence in Family
Decision Making." Contemporary Management Research 9.3 (2013): 32342. ProQuest. Web. 30 Oct. 2015.
In this article both the authors Anupriya and Yajulu also studied the effect of parents in
their childs life. When they started their research they werent so sure what they were
doing was going to have a result at all. Within the study they also wanted to find the
negative effects and positive parents had on their kids life. They looked into deep
research towards this topic which is explained in this article.
This is a secondary source: This article explains how parents can have a positive and
negative affect in there young teens life. By this I mean that if the parent isnt involved
in their childs life this is already a disadvantage to the teenager. Which make the child
and easy target for wrong decision making. In this article it also talks about
communication being the number one solution for everything. But it also explains that

parents have to find a way to get involved with their kids without making them feel like
they are checking up on them all the time. This is because young teens like to feel free
and should be able to feel free to talk to their parents without being judged.
