"Why Students Drop Out." National Dropout Prevention CenterNetwork. N.p., 13 May 2015.
Web. 23 Sept. 2015.
A student is pushed out when adverse situations within the school environment lead to
consequences, ultimately resulting in dropout. These include tests, attendance and discipline
policies, and even consequences of poor behavior. However, students can be pulled out when
factors inside the student divert them from completing school. These occur when factors, such as
financial worries, out-of-school employment, family needs, or even family changes, such as
marriage or childbirth, pull students away from school. The first nationally representative study
to address reasons for high school dropout was the EEO study of 1955. It was a private study of
35,472 high school sophomores and seniors conducted by Educational Testing Services from a
National Science Foundation grant.
