History of Wado karate
Chinese vs Japanese martial arts
japan vs Okinawan karate

Okinawan karate is more personal being handed down in the family

taught in small groups while Japanese karate is taught in large schools to
large groups of people
Okinawan karate is more about self defense and implements kobujutsu,
while Japanese karate has more of the sport concepts like sparring
competitions

Karate." KARATE by Jesse. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 Oct. 2015.

Explaining the dojo

Kiai (Joining Energy)- A loud yell or scream performed during a move to

enhance your fighting spirit and release energy to get your mind ready to
fight. Also tenses your core so it can prepare you to get hit
Kata- Simulated fight taught to transfer knowledge
by movement instead of writing
Traditional purpose of karate vs modern purpose of karate

Modern Karate has lost the emphasis on self defense and focuses on sport
fighting.
There are new moves taught nowadays to score a point in kumite instead
of being able to use that move to defend yourself
One of my interviewers felt that Karate has lost its culture and tradition.
Becoming a black belt is now used as a marketing tool. You can buy short
cuts to black belt instead of putting in the time and effort that the black
belt deserves
Parents dont want their kids to get hurt so the combat part of martial arts
is lost. Karate has become less of combat and more of a sport or hobby

There is an exercise where candles are placed by the sides of your head
and you are told to focus on a swinging pendulum in front of you. Any
movement of the head will result in burns so focus in this stressful
situation is key

around you

One of the most effective ways to banish fear is to repeatedly force

yourself to face what you're afraid of. Research has found that this
repeated exposure lowers the psychological fear response until it is more
manageable or in some cases gone.
Feelings of stress can contribute to anxiety and feelings that lead to fear.
Meditation releases stress therefore relieving feelings of fear
We develop courage by performing courageous acts-Aristotle

Life and finding the way to lead a healthy and meaningful existence in the
time you Have on this Planet "."
Shoshin Nagamine said "Karate may be considered as the conflict within
oneself or as a life-long marathon which can be won only through selfdiscipline, hard training and one's own creative efforts.

Perfection of participant

The true way of martial arts is the way of peace and harmony Hironori
Ohtsuka
Just how Bushido( Way of the Warrior) deals not with violence and fighting
but instead focuses on the character of the samurai, the martial arts are
meant to be more than a way to defend yourself. The martial arts teach
you to perfect yourself through training and to find peace and harmony
not just physically by being able to defend yourself, but mentally as well
with the perfection of the participants character through the ways of
Bushido.
The ultimate aim of martial arts is not having to use it

-Miyamoto Musashi
