night: A key to
promoting
creativity For
families in a
community
setting

What is a family arts night?

Why is it important in a community?
What can a family arts night contribute to a
community?

night?
How can a family arts night be implemented at a
library setting?

What is a Family arts

night?
A family arts night provides a
space for families to come
together and make
meaningful art together.
A family arts night can be an
opportunity for family
members to express their
creativity and learn about one
another.
A family arts night
encourages collaboration and
cooperation between family
members as they have to
work beside each other to
make art together.

Why is a family
arts night
beneficial?

As art programs are being cut

from schools, it is imperative
that art educational
opportunities are accessible in
the community.

Cultural and artistic assets in a

community can provide an
enhanced quality of life that
will often attract highly skilled
and knowledgeable workers
(Lamore, 2013).

Taking time to connect

In a world of busy schedules, over worked parents, and little

time for restoring the mind and the spirit, a family arts night
can give families a time to reconnect and allow freedom of
expression.

Benefits Continued
When parents engage in art
activities with their children, they
can encourage creativity as they
respond to their children and help
guide them to solve the
challenges they face while
participating in a creative
undertaking.

It is often in the presence of

children that parents seek their
own creative endeavors. Parents
can learn from the creative spirit
of their children by engaging in
activities with their children in
creative undertakings.

How is a family arts night

at a library different?

A library is a place where

literacy is born.
Illustrations from books are
a childs first visual language
and introduction to the
world of art.
Libraries bring families in to
learn together in a
community setting.

How the families responded

to the Family arts night

Families were enthusiastic from the beginning to start making art

together.
I noticed families talking with one another, solving problems together
and finding excitement out of their progress.
Families really enjoyed the hand print painting and the dreamscape
collage.

Parent Response
All five families that participated indicated that they would be
interested in signing up for another family arts night in the
future.
More families e-mailed to sign up after the deadline and
expressed great interest in the family arts night.

Leadership
An art educator is the most
qualified person to run a
family arts night.
Someone who has an
interest in families, and
building relationships
between family members.
Someone who has the ability
to promote the family arts
night and publicize it within
the community.
Someone who is creative and
has an interest in teaching
art projects.
