Telephone: 01922 710514 Fax: 01922 470738 Email: postbox@leamore.walsall.sch.uk http://leamoreblogs.net Friday 20th November 2015 Dear Parents/Carers of Year Five Pupils, Behaviour Issues in Year Five The majority of you will be aware of the escalation in behaviour issues in Year Five over recent weeks. Lots of children have generally had difficulty getting along with each other and weve had several examples of individual children falling out with each other. Alongside this, there has been a significant increase in incidents at playtimes and lunchtimes although these are often linked to football. I am obviously keen to resolve these behaviour issues so Im writing to ask for your support. This is what I have in mind. Instructors from Freax Adventures will be visiting on Friday 27th November to undertake some team building activities with the children. After spending some time observing Year Five in class and on the playground, they will provide a variety of challenge-based activities for the class to participate in with a specific focus on the issues that they have observed. The instructors will aim to conduct the activities outside so please make sure all children have warm PE kits and coats with them on the day. If its pouring down, well obviously use the hall. This session is costing the school nearly 500! On Monday 30th November, Zelpher Ferguson Specialist Advisory Teacher at the Integrated Behaviour Support Service in Walsall will be working with the Year Five children in the afternoon. The focus will be on Building Resilience and the session will explore managing issues, conflicts and feelings. Zelpher has agreed to arrive at 12pm so that she and I can meet with parents of Year Five pupils so you can hear about some of the initiatives we will be using with the children and hopefully support us with this at home. Please do try your very best to attend. I would hugely appreciate this! We expect the meeting to last between 30 and 45 minutes. Can you message me on Class Dojo to confirm your attendance please? On Tuesday 26th January 2016, all staff will receive two hours of Building Resilience training after school. This will be followed-up on Wednesday 27th January with two more hours of direct work with the Year Fives from Zelpher. You will know that Year Five currently have a session with Commando Joe on a Monday afternoon. This will continue after Christmas. Year Five boys have a before-school session with Commando Joe on a Monday morning to really focus on team building and cooperation skills. At the last session, 11 out of 17 boys attended. It would be great if all boys could attend. I hope you like the sound of these plans? Thank you to those parents who have been in regular contact on Class Dojo, via the telephone or face-to-face. Together we will sort this! Kind regards, Michelle Hill Interim Head Teacher
