Activity Title: Bingo twist
Source: Ladwig, K. (2001, January 13). Bingo Twist. Retrieved October 17, 2015.
Equipment:
Dry erase board, dry erase markers, two dice, anger/stress/healthy relationships bingo game
Description of Activity:
First you start by writing the classification (anger, stress) on the top of the board and five
subcategory (causes, consequence) below it. Write out the alphabet across the board (you should
underline the vowels if you are working with people who may not know or remember them).
Pick a saying from under the subcategory and put an equal numbers of blank lines as letters in
the puzzle on the board. They would have to select letters to spell out the word that define the
subcategory. Choose which team will go first and instruct them to roll the dice. Depending on the
number they roll they will receive those points if the letter they choose is in the puzzle. If they
roll a 6 and guess the letter L and L is in the puzzle they get 6 points regardless of how many L's
are in the puzzle. If they roll a double they are clean out and they lose their turn and points. If the
letter is not in the puzzle their turn is over, they do not lose their points. If the team wants to buy
a vowel, vowels are one point and must be purchased before the dice is rolled. Points roll over to
the next round. Keep it a maximum of 7 rounds. Make sure to erase the letter once a team picks
it.
As an example if the category is Anger, the subcategory phrases can be:
1) Anger is an emotion
2) it is OK to be angry but not Ok to act out in anger.
Etc...
Leadership Considerations:
This activity should be of 6-10, preferably even number to divide them into two groups. The
instructor function as a moderator by explaining the purpose of the activity. The instructor
function as facilitator by walking around and supporting and motivating them to continue
choosing letters to complete the word. The instructor should keep count of the points and assist
the participants in any way they can.
Adaptations:

Participants recovering from a stroke: Be aware that you should limit the rounds to perhaps 4
depending how their motor skills are since they tire more easily. If you see that it should be less
rounds then you can adjust it and make the changes. You can help them out in guessing which
letter to select or give them clues. You can assist them in rolling the dice if they need the help
but encourage them to try it out for themselves.
Participants with ADHD If there are participants with ADHD, there should be a smaller group
around one to three in order for the therapist to be able to focus on each participant and keep
them interested in the activity. The therapist should make sure to show the participants how to
properly play the game. A visual example should be displayed so they can capture the idea and
concept of the game. This will help them see an example and could apply it to their game once
it begins.
