Activity Title: Stress Relief through Cardio Kickboxing
Source: Boxing and Kickboxing: Two Effective Stress Relief Outlets. (n.d.). Retrieved September
17, 2015.
Equipment: No Equipment Needed
Description of Activity:
The Primary purpose of this activity is to relieve stress but also to allow a canvas for a participate to
freely express self through martial art drills that help build confidence, self-esteem, and focus.
Participants will be asked to give 100 percent, work hard, focus, and most of all have fun as
instructor breaks down different drills that will allow participant to combine to create a kickboxing
technique or even combination. Typically instructor will be in front teaching or breaking down
technique, following demonstration then will facilitate all students with voice to practice drill
together controlled by instructor pace, and lastly instructor should give time for particpants to try
drill or technique by themselves or in small groups. There are no specifics in drills taught in which
this aspect is completely controlled by instructor and interests of participants as whole.
Leadership considerations: This exercise works well in groups ranging from 10-30 but instructor
must have ability to effectively communicate, breakdown, and demonstrate drills but also have
ability to lead participants in upbeat tempo to keep activity and attention at optimal levels for each
specific participant... Consider using any open environment thats inside or outside and free of
distractions so instructor has everybody full attention
Adaptations:
Participants with any cardiovascular problems due to disability- Constantly encourage and motivate
participants to display their technique and allow as much time need for break or water while
participant is doing activity. Any technique can be done on knees or on back if needed.
Participants with Intellectual Disability- Clarify that if they ever need any assistance during exercise
that they can raise their hand to gain attention for extra help. Also allow more time process auditory
demonstration and repeat drill as many times needed for all participants to get a general concept of
drill and how to do it. If break is needed to relax dont hesitate to allow them that time or if they need
to finish activity early.

Activity Title: Dance Style Revolution
Source: Dance - health benefits - Better Health Channel. (n.d.). Retrieved September 17, 2015.
Equipment: Laptop with wireless connection, YouTube, TV, HDMI cable, writing utensil, piece of
paper, and stereo system.
Description of Activity:
The opportunity to explore a wide variety of different dance styles allows participants to have fun,
express creativity, learn, and exercise all at once. The goal of this activity is to do just that through
mimicking or dancing along to different styles of dance being displayed on TV via YouTube videos.
These videos can range from classical ballet to urban culture dance trends. Participants will spread
out in open area and once video is being played have a choice to copy whats on TV or put their own
creative twist to dance movements/ music being displayed. Each video should last from one to two
minutes and there should be a minimum of ten videos being showed. Following activity participants
will write short summary of how different music out of there comfort zone made them feel, how or
what was there strategy to adapt, and what was there favorite dance move they did during activity.
Leadership considerations: This activity size directly correlates to space provided but can be done
with groups of all sizes. Preferable use a room inside that has to move and dance freely.. Therapist
should discuss the importance of staying active in correlation to overall health and at least should
attempt to do all dances in video as that will only increase participation of participants.
Adaptations:
Participants with Depression:
Give Participants more time to get comfortable in setting and allow them more time if needed to
process video and dance accordable. Also provide more encouragement to get outside of comfort
zone and allow them to dance specifically with you or other participants if helps them express selfmore freely.
Participants with ADHD: Allow them to use energy in positive direction by allowing more space or a
partner to dance with. If having problem with attention or staying in one area assign specific tasks
that correlate to dance / activity such as holding a specific dance move or freestyle dance until next
video.
