Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with (be
specific about the purpose and your role):
The professional activity I attended was an American Heart Association Advanced
Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification course. It was an in-person, instructor-led classroom
course that focused on the importance of team dynamics and communication and systems of care
with the purpose of training health care professionals in providing immediate post-cardiac-arrest
care to adult patients in the clinical setting. The course also covered airway management and
related pharmacology in post-cardiac-arrest treatment. My role in this course was to actively
participate throughout the training and pass an exit-skills examination in order to receive
certification.
Where was this held and what was the program/activity length?
The course was held August 24, 2015 at an Eclipse Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
(Eclipse CPR) Training Center, in a classroom setting, and was approximately eight hours in
length.
Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).
As a student participating in this course, I gained first-hand training, and certification in,
the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This training
improves my ability to provide nursing care in settings such as emergency medicine and
intensive/critical care units. As I am interested in the pediatric setting, the skills gained through
this course will also serve useful when caring for adolescents who may meet the parameters for
adult treatment with regards to cardiopulmonary arrest.

Would you recommend this specific community/professional experience in the future; why or
why not? (Describe)
I would definitely recommend the ACLS course through Eclipse CPR in the future. I feel
much more prepared and confident in caring for patients in the event of a cardiopulmonary or
other cardiac emergency. I believe that nursing students will greatly benefit from this course as it
provides unique training specific to the clinical setting. Additionally, this training provides
emergency care skills that are desirable to and sought out by potential employers.

? Signature on validation of clinical hours form

Proof of attendance was obtained as a certification card that states ACLS certification
until August 2017. Have yet to obtain the signature on the validation of clinical hours form. This
will be obtained by clinical faculty at the final student evaluation.
