Activity: Quarter Tower
Source: . J. Cho, (Director). (2014). Seoul Arts Center [Television series episode]. In Y. T. Im
(Producer), Running Man. Seoul, South Korea: Seoul Broadcasting System.)
Equipment needed: A large amount of quarters
Activity Description:
1. Organize group into 2-3 teams depending on the size of the group. If less than 6, make it
an individual game.
2. Each team/individual will take turns putting stacks of 2 quarters on top of each other until
the tower collapses.
3. The team/individual that put the stack that made the tower fall is eliminated and the game
keeps going until there is one team/individual left, and they will be the winner.
Leadership Considerations:
1. To make the game more challenging, the TR specialist can include different kinds of
coins, such as pennies, dimes, and nickels. The groups can also do a rock paper scissors
game between the teams, and the winning team determines the number of coins the other
team puts on the stacked tower.
2. If conducting this activity with people that use wheelchairs, the game can be made into a
tournament with two people facing against each other. Depending on how many people
are in the group, there would be numerous tables each with their own set of quarters. The
winners of that round with compete against each other, and then eventually a winner will
be determined.
3. If conducting this activity with a group that has ADHD, the TR specialist can make the
game fast paced, such as, telling them they have to drop it into the bowl as soon they pick
the marble they want and that they must go right after the opposing member drops their
marble into the bowl.
4. Giving out prizes is also good idea, but TR specialist must make sure the clients are not
extrinsically motivated to win the game
