1. Mention the various steps involved in a scientific method.

2. Name the four fundamental forces in nature. Out of the four which one is (a) the
strongest, and (b) the weakest?

3. State the principle of homogeneity of dimensions. Test the dimensional

homogeneity of the following equation:

S S 0 0t

4. Describe the parallax method to find the distance of a nearby star from earth.

5. A gas bubble, from an explosion under water, oscillates with a period T,

proportional to pa db Ec, where p is the static pressure, d is the density of water
and E is the total energy of the explosion. Find the values of a, b and c.

6. The refractive index of water as measured by the relation

1
1. Establish the relation x 0t at 2 .
2
2. Explain with example the distinction between the magnitude of average velocity
over an internal of time and the average speed over the same period. Show that
the average speed is either greater than or equal to the average velocity. When
is the quality sign true?
3. Draw the following graphs for an object projected upward with a velocity 0,
which comes back to the same point after some time.
(i)

Acceleration vs time, (ii) Speed vs time and (iii) velocity vs time.

4. A body starting from rest accelerates uniformly along a straight line at the rate of
10 ms-2 for 5 seconds. It moves for 2 seconds with uniform velocity of 50 ms-1.
Then it retards uniformly and comes to rest in 3s. Draw velocity fine graph of the
body and find the total distance travelled by the body.

5. The displacement (in meter) of a particle moving along x-axis in given by

x=18t+5t2. Calculate.
(i)

The instantaneous velocity at t = 2s,

(ii)

Average velocity between t=2s and t=3s

(iii)

Instantaneous acceleration.
