Learning Based Project

What will the students be learning? Are they learning more than one skill? How does it
tie to real life applications? The students will be learning just more than a piece of history in this
project based learning presentation. Students will be learning how to research using technology,
how to develop a multimedia project, how to analyze historical documents as well as narrate
historical events in writing and develop a comprehensive oral and digit presentation. Each of the
contents listed above are included in the selected standards which are listed below:

Speaking and Listening Standards

Comprehension and Collaboration

1. Prepare for and participate effectively in a range of conversations and collaborations with
diverse partners, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.
2. Integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually,
quantitatively, and orally.
4. Present information, findings, and supporting evidence such that listeners can follow the line
of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and
audience.
5. Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays of data to express information and
enhance understanding of presentations.

In this activity the students will be required to have access to technology in order to
complete the project. The students will be broken up into groups, where each group will
represent different colonies. As the students research, each student will be given a person from
their colony and will have to research how that person had an impact within that colony as well
as any other impact outside their particular colony. The students will then research the
everlasting impact of their colonialist has on the real world today. For an example, how is
William Penns legacy affecting Pennsylvania today. The students will then take this information
and create a multimedia group presentation which will include pictures, videos and other media
that will outline different historical figures from their colony. The students will create timelines
as well as maps and charts, plotting important events or other activities these important figures
were involved.
The student will be displaying this information at a curriculum fair that is opened to the
community where students, teachers, parents, and other community member can watch and
actively engage with the students by asking questions and making comments about the colonist
and the presentations.

This project will allow students to connect to the real world by allowing them to work on
their communication and collaboration skills also their leadership and team building skills that
they will eventually use in their future careers.
The technology will make it possible for the students to gain access to pictures, video,
and other media about their colonial figure as well as the ability to create visually stimulating
timeline and maps. The layout and the use of the technology will help enhance the understanding
of the colonist impact instead of just reading a textbook where the information is limited.
