ASSIGNMENT 9

My school meet the requirements for the National Standards for School Meals and my
school also has free reduced policy. A student consuming breakfast and lunch at my school
would meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans because the school has to meet the guidelines
for the students. If the school does not meet these guidelines then that is against the law. For
example, my students get a fresh fruit salad with their meal at breakfast which is one of the
guidelines. One thing that I would change about the lunch and breakfast at my school would be
having less of a sodium intake. According to the food tracker, my students have eat a lot of
sodium in their food. Another change I would make for the students would be to have more food
in their meals. I have seen personal what food the students receive and Ive heard some students
say they are still hungry. The school could provide more food choice that fill the students and
still be healthy at the same time. Another change that I would make for the students lunch and
breakfast would be to have more fresh items such as fruit. On the menu, the students could have
fresh or canned and I dont think that canned fruit should be an option for the students.
I could use this activity as the viewpoint of a teacher and how this data could impact the
students from inside and outside the classroom by sharing with the students the different types of
nutrition in their meals. This information and food tracker could inform the students about the
nutrition of what they eat everyday, not only at school but at home. The students could say
different things that they put in their lunch if they bring lunch to school because many of my
students bring lunch from home and dont get school lunch. For example, I could have the
students write down different items that they have for lunch, I could then pull up the web page or
have the students go on the website and look up different foods that I make a list of. Then as a
class we could discuss what we think are healthy choices for lunch and what are not healthy. The
students could come up with different alternatives that could make their lunches healthier. The

students could also look up a meal they might have for dinner and see different ways they could
make those meals healthier as well. Overall, the using this data can help the student think about
what type of food they are putting in their lives and make healthy choices.
