Student Learning Goals (List desired learning goals, and your plans to meet them, for the next weeks clinical
experience. Goals should be based on identified performance issues and the desire for new knowledge and
experiences.)
My overall experience this clinical rotation was so rewarding. I was able to thoroughly practice my assessment
skills and medication administration. The level of patient acuity on the unit also challenged my prioritization
and time management skills which I became more confident in. I had a lot of chances to provide patient
education and to communicate with families which were areas I at first felt nervous about. I was given the
opportunity to shadow in the CCU and with the Wound Care Nurse and work as the PCC for my fellow students.
I felt as I progressed through the weeks that I was able to pull together my patients whole picture and provide
care based on the patient diagnosis and symptoms. I feel very fortunate to have been able to work on my skills
on the IMC unit and for the various opportunities Professor Schroeder provided. I look forward to using what I
learned in this rotation and applying it to my practicum rotation.

Preceptor/Instructor comments/ Student Learning Goals: (**If an item was identified as N or U, narrative
comments are necessary to clarify student performance**)
I would agree with you Jenna for I observed growth in your interpersonal communication skills with the families of the
patient. Your interaction with a challenging family was stressful. That can be very unnerving especially as a student. I
felt it was good practice for when families can be overwhelming. You handled it professionally by offering to do
everything within your power to get the results from the swallowing study so the diet could be modified. We both

learned something before we were through with the experience.
Jenna acts professionally by exhibiting a neat appearance every day and consistently has positive interactions with the
patient and staff members. I observed an appropriate amount of reserve in the presence of the patient and family which
portrayed respect.
Jenna performs and documents a thorough patient assessment. She focuses on the important aspects of nursing care
and implements them in a timely manner. Jenna is thinking like a nurse which is evident in her clinical focus and her
nursing diagnoses.
During this rotation she had the experience of PCC or patient care coordinator of 2 students with 3 patients each and I
could see the students felt her support. She knew what was going on and had the organizational skills to prioritize
accurately.
Jenna is organized and will be able to adapt to the larger patient load she will be required to care for as she progresses
to registered nurse.
I feel if I woke up and saw Jenna caring for me I would know I was in good hands.
Excellent overall clinical rotation Jenna, you brought it on like I asked. It is time to be on your own and I feel you can do
it. It was a pleasure to have you during this clinical rotation.
