UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

Teach students to recognize the importance symbols of American and Tennessee, such as the American flag and
the Tennessee flag, state flowers and state animals as describe in the TN state social studies standard 1.26.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given a table with the names of each symbols label, student should be able to find an appropriate picture for
each labels with 100% accuracy.
Given the website Prezi.com the students will make a presentation on what they have research with 100 percent
accuracy.
During this lesson plan, student will learn about the important of American and Tennessee symbols and be able
to create a presentation on the research that they have found using Prezi.com
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
1.26 Explain the importance of patriotic traditions, including the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance,
appropriate behavior during the playing of our National Anthem, and demonstrate appropriate flag etiquette.

Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digitals tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

MATERIALS:
Computer
Microsoft Words
Internet access (Google or Yahoo)
ClipArt
Prezi.com
BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
Students will demonstrate a clear recognition of the United States flag to the Tennessee flag.
Academic language is not address in IDT 3600.
This continuation of TN social studies standard 1.26.
We will refer back to the summary of the table to continue to explore the states informations. This will help us
with our worksheet.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objective and for those
ready for enrichment. However, modifications are covered in this course and are not part of this particular
lesson.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

 Introduction:
Begin by displaying the United States and Tennessee name on the overhead.
Give student time to do some brief background research about listed symbols.
Then student will have used the information they found to do the handout and create a
presentation on prezi.com.
Procedures:
Prior to the computer (20 minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
After the introduction, distribute the states planning sheets and ask them to used the computer to
find the answer to the worksheet.
Student Procedure:
Student will complete the states planning sheet and will answer question that will help them
recognize that states information that will help when creating the Prezi.
At the Computer (40 minutes)
Teacher Producers:
1. Have student open both MS Word and Internet browser
2. Direct to Google or Yahoo website so that they can find answer to the worksheet.
3. Direct student to the MS Clipart
4. Monitor and assist as needed
Student Procedures:
1. Open MS Word and Internet browser
2. Go to Google or Yahoo website to do research.
3. Fills out the worksheet as student find the answers on the internet.
4. Use the information on the worksheet to create the Prezi.
Closure:
Teachers will display the student work one it is turn in.
