TEXT 1 Two Good Friends

Once there were two hungry mice that were eagerly looking for food. One
was called Rat, and the other was called Pat. At last, they found a pail of fresh
milk. The farmers wife had left it there after milking the cows. However, the
mice could not get to the milk in the pail.
Pat then had an idea. She asked Rat to follow her and climb to the edge of
the pail and hold her tail in his mouth. While he did that, she lowered herself
into the pail of milk.
Pat was soon enjoying the delicious milk. She was taking long sips.
Meanwhile, Pat was growing impatient because Pat was taking her own sweet
time.
Would you please hurry up, Pat? Id like to have some too! Rat cried.
However, as he opened his mouth to speak, Pat fell and splashed into the
pail of milk. She screamed and struggled but Rat could not help her. Rat ran
around the edge of the pail, looking for a way to help Pat but she had already
drowned.
Rat went home sadly for he had lost a friend.
