Conclusions

In conclusion, the results of my

survey were fairly close to what I
had predicted. A vast majority of
people in the general public hadnt
heard of medical dosimetry or knew

what it was. Most people who took

it were middle age so would have
had more opportunities to learn
about it, but hadn't. The prediction
regarding radiation types was also
correct. When offered 1, 2 or 3 possible types as options, most people
didnt know there was 3, although
most people did think there was
more than one. However, it is hard
to know whether they guessed or
actually knew this for a fact. This
ties into the third prediction of over
75% of people knowing someone
who dealt with cancer. Over 90%
of people had so it is possible that
they had some prior knowledge.

This graph shows one of the many significant results hat were separate from any
hypothesized one. Depicted here is how
much the uncertainty and mystery of treatment affects fear of the disease in general.
Most people said it has at least some effect
which begs the question if that can be
alleviated. By educating on the job of the
dosimetrist, it may be reassurance that
their disease is individually treated with
assurance to be done well. Other results,
such as the most common types of cancer
seen, offer interesting facts to research
further on. In that particular instance it
was breast and lung cancer.

This also shows how applicable my

project can be to the general public.

My first hypothesis was that medical dosimetry
was a very unknown career. I predicted that less
than 50% of people would have heard of it and/or

needed a basis of how applicable my message
would be and how much was already known.
In total I had 92 responses to my ten questions asked.

Questions
1.

Are you male or female?

2.

How old are you?

3.

Have you ever known someone personally who has cancer?

4.

Did they receive radiation treatment for

their disease?

5.

What type of cancer was it?

6.

Have you ever heard of medical dosimetry?

7.

How many types of radiation do you

think there are for specifically treating
cancer?

8.

How much does the uncertainty of cancer treatments affect your fear or opinion
about the disease?

9.

Who creates cancer treatment plans?

about treatment options can help reduce stress,
since the main point of health care is to help the
patient.
