This article tells all about what Feminism really means and outlines all of the major
points that Feminists try to promote. The article expounds that Feminism is about the promotion
of equal rights between men and women, not the promotion of misogyny. Issitt and Flynn
elucidate the history of Feminism by going back in history to the colonial times and providing
examples of how some discriminations women faced back then are still prevalent in society to
this day. This article provides examples of discrimination women face and discrimination that
women have faced in the past. After providing examples of Feminist issues in the past, Issitt and
Flynn provide the information about what some Feminist issues are today.

In this article Kaplan articulated that groups and organizations who use grassroots
lobbying for women have helped promote both womens rights and human right a great deal.
Kaplan articulates that before grassroots lobbyists started promoting rights, human rights mainly
focused on torture or genocide but after lobbyists started vying for support of human rights,
officials began paying attention to the aspects of womens rights and abuse that people suffer
every day. Kaplan also expressed her opinion that the grassroots lobbyists helped formed
organizations such as the United Nations and helped form conferences such as the Beijing
Conference of 1995 that discussed international human rights. More than anything, Kaplan
expressed that human rights and rights for women is still a major issue today and that lobbyists
have helped largely with the promotion of both.

In this article, Murray and Quinn illustrate how women tend to have less opportunities
available to them than men do. Murray provides examples and proves her point that women often

are discriminated against and do not get receive many of the opportunities that their male
counterparts do. Murray and Quinn describe the discrimination and provide examples such as out
of all of the illiterate persons in the world, 2 out of 3 are women because in most LDCs (Less
Developed Countries) and even some developed countries, womens education is not valued and
girls are taken out of school at a young age. This article also shows how many male work roles
are considered more valuable and that in many countries the women are still expected to stay at
home and be the typical housewife that stays at home all day and takes care of the household.

In this article Christina Fisanick essentially says that there are many different looks and
types of feminists. Fisanick tells a story of how the way a woman was dressed when meeting the
President, set the internet world abuzz and inspired many feminists to make statements. Fisanick
describes a feminist as someone who wants equal rights for women and that feminists can be
anyone of any religion, any social class, or of any economic background. Fisanick goes on to say
that feminists can be drastically different and that some feminists where burkas and modest
clothing while others wear short skirts and high-heeled stilettos. At the end, Fisanick summed it
up in one sentence: Feminism should have no dress code.

Pilar Quezzaire and Laura Finley define Womens Rights, the history of it, and the
different aspects that all contribute to the basic idea of equal rights for women. Quezzaire and
Finley told how the issue of womens rights have been around for a long time, some issues dating

back before colonial times. In this article, it tells about how there have been many different
waves of Womens Rights and Feminist movements. Each wave of movements had a different
focus and a different purpose each time but that all movements were started off the basis of equal
rights for women.

In this article Rich and Walker explain the meaning of Gender Equality and how it
closely relates to Feminism and how it shares many of the same ideals. In the article it explains
how Feminism has gotten a bad connotation because in the past some radical feminists would
focus solely on womens rights and not necessarily gender equality, giving it a bad reputation.
The article explains that the third wave of feminism (current wave) has changed its directory and
has focused a lot of its attention on equal rights and does not condone the promotion of misandry.
Rich and Walker explain of instances that have occurred that have helped fix gender inequality
and that though there is less inequality between the sexes today, there are still many issues that
have yet to be solved.

In this article, the authors describe the basic definition of Womens Rights and tell of
different ideals activists have and what they try to promote. The issue of Womens Rights have
been prevalent all throughout history and some of the earliest issues include suffrage and the
push for many women to be included in the workforce. This article tells of the roles women have
in society today and how many women still face discrimination in the work force that occurred

one-hundred years ago. The article outlines womens roles in society today and how the issue of
Womens Rights and the promotion of Feminism are closely related.
