Topic: The negative effects of illegal immigration on our economy
A. Introduction
1. Illegal immigration is a serious issue in the United States today. It not
only threatens the safety of the citizens of the United States, but it also
puts a strain on those who seek to become lawful citizens legally.
However, the most harmful aspect of illegal immigration is the
negative effect it has on our economy. Illegal immigrants take job
opportunities from those who seek to make a living, as well as lowering
the pay rates.
2. Subheadings: History of illegal immigration/rates/data, Why and how
people choose to immigrate illegally, Negative effects of illegal
immigration, Laws/proposals sounding illegal immigration.
B. First Subheading: History of illegal immigration/rates/data
1. When exactly illegal immigration started
2. Facts, data, rates about illegal immigration
3. What years held the highest rates of illegal immigration? The lowest?
4. From what country are the greatest immigration numbers
C. Second Subheading: Why people immigrate illegally
1. What are the reasons for immigrating illegally
2. Socioeconomic reasons, war, government, religious persecution
3. What are the means illegal immigrants use
D. Third Subheading: Negative effects of illegal immigration

illegal immigration
F. Conclusion
1. In conclusion, illegal immigration has a serious effect on our economy.
Illegal immigration reduces the number of jobs available as well as
lowering wages. The government has made many laws in the past
concerning illegal immigration, but the number of illegal immigrants
continues to increase. Illegal immigration also puts a damper on those
who wish to become lawful citizens of the United States. It is a serious
problem that needs addressing.

I would like to research the topic of illegal immigration, and the negative
effects it has on citizens of the United States, as well as on the economy.
Illegal immigration presents a huge problem to the United States. Every year
more and more illegal immigrants come to the United States. They come for many
different reasons: to escape religious persecution, to escape corrupt governments,
and to obtain a better life. I seek to learn how and why they come to the United
States, but most importantly I wish to learn about the effects this has on the citizens
and our economy.
My first course of action is to collect data, facts, timelines, and rates of
immigration. This first sub-heading will also include research about the history of
immigration, illegal and legal. I also wish to find out when exactly immigration
increased, as well as when illegal immigration became an increasing problem.
For my next sub-heading, I will research why people immigrate. I wish to find
out the reasons for mass immigration and the nature of those reasons. Many
immigrants come with the hope of finding a better life. Personally I am all for
immigration. I believe it to be a beneficial thing, but only when done legally. A mix
of cultures, ideas, voices, and people provides for a more open minded nation; one
that encourages freedom and the right to a better life. I know there is a process in
place for legal immigration, but I also know this process is a very long and
strenuous undertaking. I wish to know why some people feel they cannot wait and
choose to immigrate illegally.
My next sub-heading will be the focal point of my essay: the negative effects
of illegal immigration on our citizens and economy. I will research the problems
illegal immigration presents, as well as the effect they have. For example, illegal
immigrants might be willing to work for less due to risk of exposure, and therefore
they are chosen over citizens who work for more.
