MeCollam was born in Lock Haven in 1916. He graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1934, Hewas a star athlete ai the Lock Haven Siate Teachers College in three sports—baseball, boxing, and football. He ‘was our firs football player selected to playin the old Eastern College All- Siar Game, which brought together some of the best college players of ‘Ponnsyivensa and New Jersey to play an exhibition game in Phikadelphia against the Philadelphia Eagles. [MeCollum gracbuated in 1938 and took a job asa social studies seacher and “football coach at the old Wilkamsburg High School tn Blair County. He ‘Joined the Army in June 141, about ste months before the US officially ‘entered the war. Captain McCollum was assigned to the 79" infantry Division in 1943. The 79" Division landed at Utah Beach on June 14, 1944. Justa fw ‘weeks later, Captaia McColltun was killed in action near the town of ‘Cherbourg on the north coast of Normandy. He was survived by his widow, Lorraine Cunningham MeColhun. He is buried a!
