My class management plan would be used generally for all dance classes.

The plan is a
flexible outline of daily classroom (dance studio/gym) rules and procedures.
For Lessons that Consist of Movementclass time: 95 minutes
Upon the tardy bell ringing, students should be in the dance studio to receive directionswhat to do next, what the class period will consist of.
Take roll- this can be done early, as the students are walking into class upon the first
dismissal bell, or once the students have gathered and directions are being given.. (5
minutes)
Dismiss the students to their dance lockers to dress out in dance clothes and get dance
binders. (10 minutes)
Students are to come back into class to copy the daily journal prompt and write their
answers- journal prompts are based on either previous lesson material or vocabulary for
what will be the focus for the class period. (10 minutes)
Once students have finished the daily journal, the class gathers to the center of the floor,
in their stretching lines for warm up and stretches- a variation of this is also done with
the class warming up and stretching in a big circle all together. (15 minutes)
Stretching is followed by across the floor exercises, which usually consist of movement
technique practice according to the dance style being studied (20 minutes)
Across the floor exercises are followed by center floor work, where students learn short
movement combinations combining the technique done in across the floor exercises. (25
minutes)
Depending on the dance activity, students might work in partners, small or larger groups. In
center floor work, students are able to work individually to practice and become personally
familiar with the movement techniques. The teacher is able to ask questions and provide
feedback to the students to assess progress and to facilitate student-centered learning ideas.

Release the class to change back into their school clothes and to put their dance binders
away. (10 minutes)

For Lessons that Consist of Written Work or Research Upon the tardy bell ringing, students should be in the dance studio to receive directionswhat to do next, what the class period will consist of.
Take roll- this can be done early, as the students are walking into class upon the first
dismissal bell, or once the students have gathered and directions are being given.
Usually, when the students are working on dance projects or worksheets that introduce a new
style of dance, there is/are a video(s) or reading material. In these cases, after roll has been
taken the class will either view the video or receive the reading material, and any other
worksheets or essential questions and prompts that go along with either one. For some projects,

students might be creating visual aids and/or giving presentations with a partner or in groups
and will be able to work on this in class. Research projects will require for the class to relocate to
a computer lab so that everyone has access to a computer to work.
On work days for projects the class will not have a daily journal.

Managing Classroom BehaviorsDaily participation grades comes from each students daily compliance with dance class dress
code and conduct.
Dressing out:
When dressing out, students should be in all black (within dress code) with jazz shoes
that can be either tan or black. Sweaters and jackets are allowed for warming up, as long
as all black is work underneath.
Hair should be pulled back and out of the face.
Big, bulky jewelry is not allowed unless it is small stud earrings that will not get in the
way, rings that are small and flat to the finger, and necklaces that are also small and can
be tucked into the shirt.
Each class has a chart where wrong dress-out or non dress-out attire is marked- this results in
points off of daily grade. Students who do not dress out for class will not participate, but will
have to observe and answer questions on an observation worksheet for their daily points.
Conduct:
Students are expected to participate and give full effort in movement exercises to the best
of their own ability
Students should respect the abilities and differences in movement of everyone in the
class.
Students should respect one another as peers and equals.
Any behavioral issues with a student will be addressed one on one between student and teacher
at the end of class, not during. In a second offense, the student's parents will be notified via
email or call home, and in a third offense, teacher, parents and an assistant principal will meet
to discuss the issue. Further actions with offenses after the third will be discussed with the
principal.
If, for any reason a student becomes immediately aggressive, the principal or assistant principal
will be called.
