Reflection paper 1
The lesson I gave for today lesson was about grammar (predicates) and the approach which is
used in this lesson is detective method. Looking back at the lesson I gave today, it is clear that I
met most of my objective that I planned to achieve. I tried to utilizing various learning activities
that address all the learning styles, kinesthetic, visual and auditory learners. I gave activities to
address group work, pair work and individual, so students can check their understanding and
give me a full picture of students comprehension. I managed to give students clear instruction
before the activities, so they will not face difficulties in doing it. Moreover, I tried to model the
group work games for the students before assigning the group to do it. As I noticed Grade 2
students like learning new concepts by seeing them, so as a step I utilized visual aids such as the
video to helped students understand the grammar rule. To help students achieving the tasks I
worked on providing scaffolding and monitoring for the students work during the activities, so
the students could feel free in doing them.
My lesson main objectives are to help students to be able to identify the subjects and predicates
in sentences and write predicates that match the subjects and complete the sentences. These
objectives were addressed by teaching students in a five stages lesson (engagement, building
knowledge, transformation, presentation and reflection). These stages assist students learning
from addressing essay concepts to the difficult concepts and providing activities for each stage
help me to check students understanding and how far they are processing the new concepts.
I think that teach-check-teach approach helped me to check if I met my learning objectives. The
popcorn activity was requiring the students to identify the predicates and subjects in the
sentences and students were able to do this task. By looking at students work, it is clear that most
of the students had comprehended the grammar rule, but few were struggling. Overall, students
were capable to complete the tasks I assigned them to do and this indicates that I met my
objectives.
One of the main areas that need improvement is managing students behavior. The
implementations of the activities were good, but it needed more concentration specially with

tackling students behavior. Due to the high number of students which is (32 students), I need to
work on improving my management skills and strategies. I think that I did develop my
management strategies, but I need to look up for different and new methods in addressing all the
learners. This is essential to the classroom environment because students learn when they are in a
good atmosphere. If I cannot handle the misbehavior students, this will lead to a failure lesson
and affect the other students in the class. This will impact my lesson and avoid me from
achieving all my learning objectives.
To address the students management, I need to look for new strategies to handle misbehavior
students which will help to tackle this area. Having experience the students, I know now that
these students need a method that shows each students performance. Due to this result, I think
that using a website that has all the students names will help me to maintain their behavior in the
class. Im looking also to use TPR games, such as clapping and pointing game to develop my
management skills because these students are very active and they like moving in the class.
As a next step, I will try to implement the new methods and use my teacher voice in the
classroom.
