The purpose of this position paper is to outline the evidence supporting
the ADAs adult weight management position statement using an evidencebased approach. It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that successful weight management to improve overall health for adults requires a lifelong commitment to healthful lifestyle behaviors emphasizing sustainable and enjoyable eating practices and daily physical activities. ADA Position adopted by the House of Delegates Leadership Team on October 20, 1996 and reaffirmed on September 12, 1999 and June 30, 2005. The position was in effect untl December 31, 2013.
