Students are currently reading The Lightning Thief by Rick


Riordan. To incorporate Indian Education For All the
students will research an Elder or historic figure from the
Crow tribe. In Percy Jacksons universe they have the Greek
gods and demigods as their higher powers or heroes and
for the Crow it is their Elders and Chiefs. Once the students
gather their information they will type up a one page paper
about the historical person they chose.

The Lesson Structure: Activities


Students will be given a list of the Crows heroes and
leaders to choose their topic. Once they choose a person
they will be given a pre-writing worksheet to help them for
when the write their final paper. The worksheet includes
finding a person and three subtopics about this person.
Before actual research begins the class will discuss what
can be used as subtopics on the worksheet. Examples can
be where were they born, why are they considered a hero
or historically significant, where did they live, and so on.
For research students will use everything including the
library database, Google, tribal websites, and Youtube to
gather all of their information. Once all their information is
gathered and their pre-writing worksheet is completed and
gone over by the teacher, the students can type out their
paper. Students will use Google Docs or Microsoft Word to
complete their assignments. Before finally turning the
assignment in the students will be paired into groups so
their papers can be proofread.

Closing/Assessment
The teacher will grade the papers based on a rubric.
Homework
Students will have time to work on everything in class. Any
homework will be typing up their final papers.
