INTRODUCTION

We enjoyed meeting with Running Forward representatives, Kortnie and

Tate, to discuss the purpose and needs of Running Forward. We were
interested to learn that though the organization is designed to help children
build character and develop skills for success through running, the more
important focus is the student/mentor relationship. The mentorship is about
giving the student a positive role model and helping them see what they can
achieve.

NEEDS OF RUNNING FORWARD

As Running Forward is a non-profit organization, funds and resources are

often hard to come by. This has been magnified by the fact the Running
Forward is seeking to expand their program to include elementary children
outside of grades 4-6, which has been their primary focus in the past. In
addition to this, Running Forward is opening participation in their annual 5K
to the general public whereas, historically, it has only been open to the
youths participating in the program.
With this expansion in mind, Running Forward very much needs to increase
awareness throughout the community. They seek to do this through the
creation and distribution of flyers and brochures containing information
about the organization as well as how to become involved. Running Forward
has limited volunteers and resources with which to accomplish this, though,
and this is where our teams expertise would become beneficial to them.
With our diverse backgrounds and skill-sets we will be able to create these
documents for Running Forward, with minimal expense to the organization
both in terms of time and money.

GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Our objective is to create rhetorically significant advertisements for Running

Forward. These advertisements will be catered to a specific audience of
fourth to sixth graders in need of positive role models and parents/adults
looking to sponsor a runner. While Running Forward is a program to teach
healthy habits about diet and exercise, it also focuses on mentoring youth
towards the importance of seeking higher education and positive rolemodels throughout a childs development. We will achieve our goals through
a series of projects that will help disseminate Running Forwards presence to
the public.

First, we will create a flyer as requested about the organizations

mission and intent within the community. This flyer will be designed to
be a less informative text document, and more of a basic attention
grabbing advertisement about the program; including dates and
locations of events, people to contact, the mission and goals of the
organization, and easy to glean information about the program. This
flyer should be both visually and verbally rhetorical, with pictures to
draw in the potential audience.

Second, we will create brochures with more extensive information

about the Running Forward organization. These will be designed with
the intent of handing out to more interested prospects that request
more information. They should have detailed knowledge of the
programs infrastructure and exhaustive means for contacting the
programs leaders for follow-up information.

Lastly we will complete our goal through touch-up work on the

organizations website and newsletter, offering any additional
feedback and critique that can help the site appeal to the target
audience and also the mass audience.

METHODS/PLAN STATEMENT

In order to create a foundation on which we can produce high quality work,

a process of generating ideas, drafts, and a final product must be outlined.
This process will be outlined by meetings with the Running Forward
organization and exposure to their previously released flyers and other

related documents. Along with the insight acquired through previous

documents, an open dialogue will be maintained with Running Forward.
At a minimum, our group will hold weekly meetings to stay up to speed on
the status of documents, split up tasks, and to conduct peer reviews on
drafts. Our group meetings will ensure that all team members remain on
the same page and maintain cohesion in our overall thought process and
idea generation. The creation and production of the documents we will
present to the Running Forward organization will be done with the Adobe
Creative Suite and/or Microsoft Office Suite.

SCHEDULE

November 11

Present initial draft of flyer, brochure, and newsletter

November 18

Revised draft of flyer, brochure, and newsletter

November 25

Final documents, including electronic copies

Note: Any additional documents/projects will be completed on the same

timeline.
QUALIFICATIONS

The qualifications of our team members includes a broad range of skill sets
and perspectives. Some of these qualifications include studies oriented
towards English, writing and rhetoric, business administration, law,
marketing, and document design. These are augmented by experience with
the Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative suites. These combined skills will
help us to create attractive and effective documents.

BUDGET

Regarding the financing of this project, the group will set aside monies not
to exceed $50. These funds will be used to facilitate the creation of all
original documents, whether flyers, brochures, or otherwise, as per our
agreement with Running Forward. Any further printing or copies will be
created at the expense of Running Forward. Electronic copies of each
unique document will be provided along with each hard-copy deliverable.

This will allow Running Forward to make further copies or prints of each
document on an as-needed basis, as opposed to mass-producing these prints
up-front.

CONCLUSION

Our ultimate goal is to help create awareness with regards to an

organization that seeks to mentor and empower the lives of the youth in our
community. It is our belief that, through our combined efforts and
complementary skill-sets, we can create a series of documents that will
effectively alert people to the mission of Running Forward. We are greatly
looking forward to this partnership, and though Running Forward already
does so much good, we aim to give them a running start into their next
chapter.
