In this lesson, the students will use
a globe, clay and a flashlight to
resemble day and night on earth.
Why is it day and why is it night?
S.K-2.D.3.1.1: Identify objects that can be observed in
the day or night sky (i.e., the Moon, planets, the Sun
and other stars).

Globe- a representation of the earth
Rotation- the act of turning around

1. (Engage) Anticipatory set: ask
children to stand and face the
front of the classroom, have
them touch their noses and
pay attention to their noses as
they spin in one place. Talk
about what the motion is
called (rotation) and what
happened to their noses as
the spun.

day and night

have them complete the
response pages.
4. Ask the students questions
that are prompted from the
book

the activity on the flip chart
