Welcome to 6th grade Language Arts! I am Miss Lynes Bayonito, and I will be your Language Arts teacher for School

me that we begin the year on the right note. Please keep this syllabus in your binder for future reference .

I welcome all questions and comments regarding your childs progress in the class, the material that he or she
is learning, and anything else that may be of concern to you as a parent/guardian. Heres to a wonderful
school year, Dragons!

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Please be responsible for your belongings and replenish materials when necessary. They
are essential for academic success in class. Items such as colored pencils, scissors, glue, etc. will be required at a later date
for projects. However, the following materials will be required daily:

3-ring binder
College-ruled paper
2 black/blue pens
2 red pens

5 binder divider tabs

400 index cards
Pocket Dictionary and Thesaurus

LATE ASSIGNMENTS, ABSENCES, TARDIES & MAKEUP WORK: Students are expected to turn in all
assignments on time. Points will be deducted for late work. If you were in class and failed to finish your work, it
automatically becomes homework and you must turn in your assignment at our next class meeting. Late assignments
will not be accepted after two weeks of the deadline. If you are absent on the day of a quiz, test, or the day an
assignment is due, you are expected to take the test the day you return, as well as turn in your work the day you get back
to class. Full credit for assignments will only be given if your absence is excused with proper documentation . Coming

into class 12 minutes after the start of class is considered tardy.

It is the students responsibility to ask for makeup work from the teacher or from classmates . This is why it is
important to keep classmates contact information in your Student Planner. One day of absence equals one day to
complete makeup work without penalties. If you were out for two days, you have two days to makeup work, and so on.
Stay organized and try not to fall behind on assignments because your grade may suffer. Please dont be afraid to ask for
help!
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS: Each student is expected to be an active member of the classroom community by
coming to class prepared, as well as participating in class discussions, and taking an active role in their education by
asking questions so that I may be able to help them to the best of my ability.
CLASS RULES:

1. Respect everyone.
2. Be responsible, prepared, and ready to learn.
3. Come to class with a positive attitude.
4. Follow all school rules.
DISCIPLINE POLICY: All of my students are expected to follow Astumbo Middle Schools three school-wide rules:
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, & Be Safe, as well as all the rules set forth in the Student Handbook. In terms of
disciplinary actions, I enforce a three-strike rule for minor offenses, such as classroom disruption, or not staying on task.
Students who reach the 4th Offense will be referred to the school administrator in charge of discipline. Students who
commit major offenses will immediately be referred to school administration. Please see student handbook for all other
offenses and related disciplinary actions
1st OFFENSE: Verbal Warning
2nd OFFENSE: Detention & Phone Call/Note Sent Home
