This Months Learnings

LA This month we have been testing our reading strategies to assess what level each
student is at. Every student has improved in their reading abilities! Keep up the great work
6B!! We have also been working on writing newspaper articles. Grade 6 has studied the
elements of a newspaper article and we have written one together. Our next step is to
practice writing on our own.
Social Studies In Social, we have been learning about Ancient Athens and how their
society compares to ours. We will be wrapping up this unit before the end of the month
and will move on to learn about the Iroquois Confederacy. We will continue to compare this
way of life with Canadian democracy.
Science Students have been very engaged in our latest unit, Sky Science. We are
exploring stars, moons, planets and other parts of the solar system. We have just begun
working on a Planet Research Project utilizing Prezi and/or PowerPoint. Look for a Check for
Understanding in this unit before the Christmas Break.
Math In Math, we have spent a long time understanding patterns and input/output
machines. Students have worked very hard and are finally ready to move onto plotting
coordinates, the preservation of equality, balancing equations, multiples, prime &
composite numbers, factors, etc. This will take us to the Christmas Break and into January.
