Dear Dr. Kanke:
As the Director of Uloop News, I supervised and coordinated a fall 2015 Florida State University Uloop
student writing internship for Idaly Mata. Idaly worked hard to complete her internship requirements by
writing a total of 11 articles during her time as an intern with us.
Idaly explored a variety of topics and categories during her span as an intern. These included campus life,
politics, fashion, health, entertainment, sports, and technology. Writing on such a large range of topics
proved Idalys versatility as a writer and professional.
Idalys highest-scoring article received 264 page-views for the site: Yik Yak: A Place to be Anonymous in
College. This article focused on the dangers of the app Yik Yak in relation to college campuses and
especially to Florida State University. To write an article with both local and national connotations was
genius on Idalys part, as this expanded her readership beyond Florida State students. Idaly wrote about the
need for peace and the epidemic of silent bullying affecting college campuses everywhere, making for a
great article.
My favorite article Idaly wrote was called Our Romance with Suffering. Tackling a difficult topic, Idaly
discusses the way society has romanticized relationships that do not correlate with happily ever after.
Rather, these relationships include suffering, abuse and more, and Idaly pleads for readers to seek help if
needed. This article was both touching and a great fit for our readers, many of whom silently suffer unsure
of what to do when they end up in such relationships at such a young age. To write about this topic proved
both brave and professional, and Im glad Idaly took the time to write such a piece.
Idaly wrote one of her articles around a topic in fashion. This article was called How to Add Oil to Your
Beauty Routine. Idaly included both her own experiences and some research in this article, giving it both a
thorough and personal touch.
One area where Idaly struggled a little was with meeting deadlines. As the nature of this internship is very
independent and entirely virtual, expertly handling such an internship proves difficult for many interns.
However, the internship does offer some flexibility of deadlines, so this of course was not detrimental to
our site. Over time, Idaly was able to make up any work she may have missed one week to fulfill her
requirement by the end of the semester.
Idaly did a nice job interning with us, and she will most certainly have a place writing for us in the future if
she so chooses. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need clarification.
Sincerely,

Megan Johnson
