Abstract

In this paper I will be demonstrating my best understanding of how CCSD Technology

Standards, Nevada Performance Indicators, and the National Educational Technology Standards
impact instructors and students across different grade levels, and how recommended levels of
sophistication between technology instruction at elementary, middle, and high school grades
impact instructional choices. The six topics being discussed will all be for the National Education
Technology Standards. They include: Creativity and Innovation, Communication and
Collaboration, Research and Information Fluency, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and
Decision Making, Digital Citizenship, and finally Technology Operations and Concepts.
Technology Standards Paper
The first standard we will be discussing is Creativity and Innovation. By using creative
thinking and innovative technology in the classroom this assists the student with visual
demonstrations and the use of physical models and simulations. These can be used to explore and
identify complex systems and forecast possibilities. They can also be used to use knowledge
students may already have about something and help generate new ideas and creative thoughts.
This guideline will help students further understand about the Performance Indicator and how it
can be used to track students progress.
The second standard will be discussing is the Communication and Collaboration. Every
day students use digital media such as Instagram, Twitter, and other picture sharing social media
sites. This performance indicator creates an environment in the classroom where students can
communicate and interact with other students, teachers, and professionals. They also are able to
learn and engage in a cultural and global awareness which is amazing for students at such a
young age to be able to do. They are able to use technology and the internet to help produce
work and solve real world problems.

The third standard is Research and Information Fluency. We see this standard most
applied in high school and upper grade middle school students. Here students get to apply digital
tools to plan, create, organize, and learn information in order to be able to analyze, understand,
and evaluate information. With the use of technology students are able to find more research
from the Web. They are able to look at newspapers, articles, books, magazines, and many more
right on their computer. This makes the process of looking for information on a topic much easier
because of the use of search engines online.
Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making is the next technology standard. Here
students use critical thinking skills to plan, conduct research, manage projects, solve problems,
and make informed decisions using the appropriate or accurate digital tools and resources. This
standard plays a critical role in problem solving and being able to have an accurate response to
questions asked.
The second to last technology standard is Digital Citizenship. This has to do with students being
able to demonstrate personal development to be lifelong learners because they are aware of the
human, cultural, and social issues related to technology. This is the standard that is related to
practicing ethical and legal digital behavior, which in this day and age is extremely important
with all the new advances in technology and the internet.
The last technology standard is Technology Operations and Concepts. Here students demonstrate
a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations so they are able to select,
transfer, understand and troubleshoot various systems and applications productively and
effectively. Again with such huge steps being taken in the field of technology and the use of the
internet this is something that is critical to be taught and understood in schools.
