Interview 2:
Name of interview:
Topic covered: Graffiti and the strong laws it holds.
Research of topic: URBAN ART
Key Facts:
http://www.thesite.org/crime-and-safety/in-trouble/graffiti-9130.html
http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/harsh-sentences-for-graffiti-820

Graffiti is illegal and if caught doing it you can be arrested under the
Criminal Damage Act 1971.

Prison is possible for up to 10 years and/or a fine of the damage costs which
is more than 5000.

Ages 12-17 get 24 months detention sentence

The Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 introduced new powers for local councils to
punish offenders and to help them clear up illegal graffiti. These included:
On-the-spot fines of 50 to anyone caught doing graffiti on public property. These
can be given out by police officers, community support officers or local authority
officials;
Giving local authorities the power to give clean-up notices to owners of street
furniture such as phone boxes if they have graffiti on them. If the property is not
cleaned in 28 days the authority can remove the graffiti themselves and charge
the owner for this service;
Making it an offence to sell spray paint to under-16s. If a shopkeeper cant prove
they took reasonable steps to determine the age of the person, they can be fined
up to 2,500

What is tagging? Anti-social graffiti. This is stamping a signature, claiming

the property as their own. This is mostly done in gangs etc. to pose threat and
show gang territory.

Free walls are graffiti walls built by the council in order for people to legally

practice their art.

BANKSY, DAVID CHOE, RETNA, SKEAM

BANKSY is one of the most well-known graffiti artists who keeps his identity
unknown in order to not cause trouble with the law

Why is the law so extreme? SKEAM found dead in prison cell serving graffiti
sentence. Deemed as vandalism and malicious mischief

Britain is the only place in Western Europe where you get this much of a
hefty sentence for graffiti.

Some say the punishment should just be a fine or community service, not a
prison sentence

Interview 3:
Name of interview:
Topic covered:
Research of topic: URBAN SPORT

Skateboarding originated in the 1950s and came from surfing

in Hawaii, put wheels on a surfboard simple as. People from
Hawaii came up with this idea for days when it was a too rough
of sea to go and surf so why not surf on the ground?
Identify how skateboarding has changed from when it
originated, crime/law & restrictions for hard core
skateboarders.
Has skateboarding become too mainstream? Again?
Skate Stopper devices.
What are the views from skateboarders, on the stereotypical
skateboarder that other people see?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/fashion-andstyle/10729536/Skateboarding-has-gone-mainstreamagain.html
There is many laws behind skating causing a lot of restrictions
for skateboarding leading to a lot of crime which therefore puts
skateboarding into a stereotypical category.
How authorities may be realising there is a lot of financial
profit possibilities with skating.
http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2015/apr/20/skate-cityskateboarders-developers-bans-defensive-architecture
Architecture is a main problem with skating because the board
can damage things, so many cities have skate stopper devices
like metal knobs on ledges and harder rougher curbs making it
more difficult or impossible for a skater to skate. Police mainly
in America would pick on skaters and arrest them for no
reasons just because they are skating this has become less of
a problem over the past year as the sport becomes more
mainstream and people realise the sport is healthy but its
dangerous too, this is a main reason for the sport to be
frowned upon.
