Standards (What do you want students to know and be able to do? What knowledge, skills, and strategies do you
expect students to gain? Are there connections to other curriculum areas and subject area benchmarks? )
Standard 5: Research and Information: The student will conduct research and organize
Content Standards
information
Standard 3: Research and information fluency: The student will process data and report
NETS*S Standards: results
Overview (a short summary of the lesson or unit including assignment or expected or possible products)
Two to three students will partner up and find a science experiment using the internet. After the students conduct
the experiment with their group members, they will then make a Power Point presentation showing all the different
steps in chronological order from start to finish. In this Power Point presentation they will include their experiment
data and pictures. The students will have two weeks to complete, once two weeks is up students will give
presentations of their experiment to the class.
Essential Questions (What essential question or learning are you addressing? What would students care or
want to know about the topic? What are some questions to get students thinking about the topic or generate
interest about the topic? What questions can you ask students to help them focus on important aspects of the
topic? What background or prior knowledge will you expect students to bring to this topic and build on?)
What materials do you need for your experiment? What is supposed to be the outcome of the experiment? Did
you get the same results, if not what results did you get?

Assessment (What will students do or produce to illustrate their learning? What can students do to generate new
knowledge? How will you assess how students are progressing (formative assessment)? How will you assess
what they produce or do? How will you differentiate products?)
The students will illustrate their learnings by presenting their Power Point presentations. The students will
generate new knowledge by conducting a science experiment and making a PowerPoint presentation of their
data. I will watch the students go from researching a science experiment on the internet to conducting the
experiment in their groups. The presentation of their experiments will be graded according to a rubic.

Resources (How does technology support student learning? What digital tools, and resourcesonline student
tools, research sites, student handouts, tools, tutorials, templates, assessment rubrics, etchelp elucidate or
explain the content or allow students to interact with the content? What previous technology skills should students
have to complete this project?)
The student will use the internet possibly a simple Google search to find their science experiment. The student will
then use office PowerPoint to make a presentation.

Instructional Plan
Preparation (What student needs, interests, and prior learning provide a foundation for this lesson? How
can you find out if students have this foundation? What difficulties might students have?)
The students will need a computer with internet to research an experiment. Some students may have difficulty
finding an experiment that they have all the materials available in the classroom or at their home.

Management (How and where will your students work? Classroom, lab, groups, etc?
The students will work in groups in the Computer Lab, classroom, and some at home.

Instruction and Activities (What instructional strategies will you use with this lesson? How will your
learning environment support these activities? What is your role? What are the students' roles in the
lesson? How can the technology support your teaching? What engaged and worthwhile learning activities
and tasks will your students complete? How will they build knowledge and skills? Will students be
expected to collaborate with each other and others? How will you facilitate the collaboration?)
I will help provide instruction with the internet research in the computer lab, finding experiment materials,
conducting the experiments, and creating a PowerPoint presentation. I will assign flexible student groups. I will
provide a rubric for the students to know what aspects they will need in their presentations. We will go over this
rubric together in class.

Differentiation (How will you differentiate content and process to accommodate various learning styles
and abilities? How will you help students learn independently and with others? How will you provide
extensions and opportunities for enrichment? What assistive technologies will you need to provide?)
1. Students will be able to choose what type of science experiment they will conduct. I will need to provide
the students with computers to research their experiment and create their presentation.

Closure and Reflection (Will there be a closing event? Will students be asked to reflect upon their work?
Will students be asked to provide feedback on the assignment itself? What will be your process for
answering the following questions?
Did students find the lesson meaningful and worth completing?
In what ways was this lesson effective?
What went well and why?
What did not go well and why?
How would you teach this lesson differently?)
At the end of each presentation the class as a whole will discuss what they learned from the experiment. After
each presentation the students will be asked what they would have done differently in their experiment or what
went well.
