Demand and Control #2

The Ethical Dilemma: It is good that people asking questions needs to wait to say/sign it
until the interpreter can get up on stage or hand them a microphone to say/sign the question.
However it is also good workshop shouldnt have to wait for the interpreter to get in position to
interpret what is being said.

Demands:
Pre:
Environmental: The Jargon is specifically related to self-employment, and the presenters jobs.
Interpersonal: A lot of Deaf clients will be there.
Intrapersonal: Im worried about the set up.
Paralinguistic: Have to speak very clearly and deliberately for the CART.

During:
Environmental: A couple of the subjects that the presenters is talking about I have no schema
on.
Interpersonal: There are a lot more hearing people than previously expected.
Intrapersonal: Im making a lot of mistakes! Urg!
Paralinguistic: One of the hearing presenters that is speaking really fast.

Post:
Environmental: Knowing the jargon from presentation is important.
Interpersonal: Need to debrief with the team member.
Intrapersonal: I need to learn about HTML and SS to help better myself.
Paralinguistic: Learn more about CART and practice speaking more clearly.

Control:
Pre:
Environmental: By researching presenters jobs and what jargon is specifically related to them,
I allow myself the need vocabulary to do my job. However, I dont know everything they are
going to talk about and might still miss some words.
Interpersonal: By preparing to be able to cater to the small amount of hearing clients and be
ready for the one hearing presenter, I am allowing my team and myself to be focused on what
needs to be done. However, we might be under prepared if more hearing people show up than
expected.
Intrapersonal: By voicing my worries to my team member, by doing this I am allowing my
team member to help plan for our job.
Paralinguistic: By learning more about how CART works, I am allowing myself the
information that I need to do my job more effectively. However, I might not get all the
information that I need to know about the technology.

During:
Environmental: By looking at the Power Point, I allow myself to get some of the information
that I need to interpret. However, it is not all the information that I need.
Interpersonal: By using a microphone, I allow the hearing clients to hear everything that is
being said. However, during the questionnaire section the hearing people might not use it and
then not everyone can hear them, and it makes it harder for the interpreters to hop up on stage
and then sit back down when answering questions.
Intrapersonal: By listening to the feed that my team member is giving me, I am showing my
team member that Im willing to work with them. However, by trying to listen to my team
members advice I might miss some critical information that is being said.
Paralinguistic: By interrupting the speaker to ask for her to repeat some crucial information, I
am allowing the clients to get all the information they need. However, Im interrupting the flow
of the presentation.

Post:

Environmental: By researching the information and jargon from the presentation that I didnt
know, I am allowing myself to continue to improve myself in my field.
Interpersonal: By talking about the job, what went well, and what didnt
Intrapersonal: By learning about the subjects I dont that much about, I allow myself to
continue learning about stuff that I might need to know.
Paralinguistic: By learning more about CART, I am allowing myself to know more about the
technology that our Deaf client uses.

My decision: There are several things in this situation that would need my attention, but
when focusing on the major ethical dilemma. My decision would be to try and do the best I could
with getting up and down on the stage, and try and get all the hearing people to the microphone
so that everyone can hear them and that the CART can register what they are saying.
