6. Pre-lesson assignments and/or prior knowledge:


Students will know their sense of taste from introductory lesson.
Students will know they use their tongue to taste from introductory lesson.
7. Lesson Beginning:
The trigger song will be played to signify the start of the five senses unit.
Read a-loud
Students will watch the video Tongue - Human Body Parts - Pre School - Animated
Videos for Kids.
8. Instructional Plan:
The teacher will give the students four different foods. At the directions of the teacher,
the student will then taste one of the four foods. The students will then circle if they liked
or disliked the food. Lastly, the student will sort the food into the category of taste they
believe the food is in. The student will repeat this procedure for each of the four foods.
o Differentiation:
If the student doesnt like the food, they can use a partner to help describe the food to
them.
Early finishers can color in the pictures.

o Questions:
Which body part do you use to taste?
What are the four categories of taste?
Is this food bitter?
Is this food salty?
Is this food sweet?
Is this food sour?

o Instructional Management:
Teachers will prepare all relevant materials before the lesson.
The teachers will pass out necessary worksheets and foods to the students.
Students will sit at their assigned table.
Teachers will remind the students to not play with the food.

o Transitions:
Students will be dismissed from the rug to their table by table color.
9. Closure:
After the students took an educational guess, they will clean up their table and sit in
their rows. The teacher will then go through the list of four foods. After each food, the
teacher will ask the students who liked the food, and who disliked the food. Lastly, the
teacher will go over which foods belonged to each category of food.
The closure song will be played, 5 Senses Song- The sense of Taste!
