Matthew Barnidges Role of News from academia.edu, describes the role of news on
social media, and how it promotes arguments between parties. He describes the tensions
created on social media by people giving their opinions on news. Barnidge, being a
published researcher from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, is able to give
creditability to his work. The information presented is important and useful because it
demonstrates an aspect of social media that causes anger and affects peoples day, which
in turn places an impact on their lives.

Jay Campisi, among others, from psy-journal.com, researched how social media affected
quality of life. How the relations between using social media to stay in contact with
friends versus using social media as a way to finds companionship compared. Campisi is

able to survey hundreds of people in order to receive data that supports his statement,
along with surveys he used; he conducted research about the uses of social media. His
paper will assist me in my research paper because it shows the different aspects of social
media and how they relate to our lives.

Digital Trends staff adequately describes the history of social media dating back to the
70s and 80s. The site talks about the expansion of social media and the various
platforms that branched off from social media. The source seems very credible, even
though it comes from a com, the descriptive detail provided shows that they accurately
researched the history of social media. I plan on using this information to demonstrate the
progression of social media and how its been exploited.

The article from the Times International Business analytically describes and displays the
number of social media outlets used per day. The article also notes how many users these
social media outlets gain daily. Times International Business gathered their statistics from
other researches and credible sources, such as Gary Social Media Count and The Social
Skinny. The information provided by the .com will be useful in providing evidence of the
use of social media by the current generation.

Public libraries are the main focus of this article. David King takes different aspects that
social media can provide, such as using it to listen to the community and communicating
with other. He weaves those aspects in with usage for it in a public library. King talks
about different ways to use social media that would be beneficial for the library. As a
scholarly journal on an .org site, this source is credible. While the main content is very
narrowed, it does present different aspects of social media use that helps me portray the
impact that social media has on society.

Facebook, by Kerry Skemp speaks about the development of Facebook. She briefly
explains how Facebook became what it is now, how it developed, and some of the
downfalls it had through its journey. Even though, coming from a .com, the article
appears to have used credible sources, sighting accurate details about Facebook. This
article is very helpful in my research paper because it describes one of the main social
medias of our generation. Skemp shows the rise of a media that serviced as social
connection for millions of people.

five reasons to use social media: gathering news, staying connected with people, among
three other points of view. Gordhamer Soren is able to show how social media is
currently being used by our generation. The author is knowledgeable in the subject
matter, including research in his work, which enhances the credibility of the source. It is
applicable to my research paper because it gives 5 way that social media affects our lives,
which correlates with my line of inquiry about the impact of social media. I will be able
to give examples of how social media impacted out lives.
