Main Article: (Description of the resource/tool? What does the resource do? How
does it work? How did you like it? What are the advantages and limitations?)
Wikispaces is a social writing platform for education that made incredibly easy to
create a classroom workspace, where teachers and students can communicate and
work on writing projects alone or in teams. It is also a rich assessment tools that
gives teachers the power to measure student contribution and engagement in realtime.
Wikispaces is simple; members can create pages and spaces without undue
restrictions or rules. Wiki pages are fully internationalized, so you can contribute
content in any language you like. Wikispaces is designed to be usable for everyone.
Theyve a visual editor that lets you see the layout and design of your page while
you're editing it. No technical knowledge required. We also let you use wiki markup
if you're so inclined. And Wikispaces is fast even in large communities with lots of
activity. They take care of hosting, backups, and upgrades so you don't have to.
I like wikispaces because of all the advantages it has. All of their services are free to
try and they don't ask for any of your personal information up front. And their
pricing is simple and clear. Their customer service has been called "crazy amazing."
That's because they're more concerned about helping you than doing anything else
and because the people who respond to your email are the same people who built
the service.
Limitation wise, Wikis require students to have access to computers and an internet
connection, something not all students have. Wikis are not always written or edited
by someone with credentials on the subject. They are not as scholarly as books or
journal articles
Educational uses and applications for Education/classroom: (How could this
app be used for education? Specific activities, examples)
Class room management for example: Wikispaces give you the tools to quickly and
easily create assignments, share resources, make announcements, and foster
discussion and community.
Project based learning for example :Wikispaces Classroom provides a simple structure that allows you to
create projects, define teams, assign students and manage them all through successful completion of their
projects. Starting from pre-built templates, or a blank slate, students can work in private groups until their
work is due.
Teachers and students can communicate and work on writing projects alone or in
teams. It is also a rich assessment tools that gives teachers the power to measure
student contribution and engagement in real-time.
For example: After a group project the teacher can easily grade the group members
participation

Pros/Advantages: (Short sentences, brief information)

Wikispaces is free
Allows students to use their technological skills, writing skills, and research skills
Wikis are a great collaboration tool. Students can do group work even if their group
can't all meet at the same time.
Wikispaces gives teachers immediate, relevant, and direct insight into student
engagement and contribution. That means that teachers can help those who need it
most and challenge those who don't
Cons/Disadvantages: (Short sentences, brief information)
Require students to have access to computers and an internet connection,
something not all students have.
Wikispaces are not always written or edited by someone with credentials on the
subject. They are not as scholarly as books or journal articles.
Wikispaces can be edited by anyone, which can allow others to delete or change
your work.
Wikispaces can be edited by anyone, which can lead to false or biased information
Summary: Wikispaces are strong believers that wikis can be revolutionary tools for
building communities. But most wikis are very engineer-focused: hard to use, buried
under busy user interfaces, full of features only a geek could love. Wikispaces is an
attempt to build a wiki that's easy to use and easy to adopt for all kinds of
audiences. they've kept the tool simple so that people can focus on building
content, talking with other members, and growing communities.
