THE CASE FOR SOCIAL LEARNING

RE:

The need to implement social learning components for employees.

CC:

District Office Supervisors

The training department From a Blessed Kitchen would like to suggest some changes in
the area of technology and communications. These changes would help our organizations
interaction with customers and increase our sales. We will focus on how social learning affects
the development of the goals and changes proposed.
Social learning is based on stimulus-response. We learn by doing the activity and seeing
for ourselves how things work. Social learning is led by the individual. People learn while
watching others behaviors, attitudes, and outcomes of those behaviors. Social learning can be
divided into four steps. The first is attention, which includes sensory capacities, perceptual set,
and past reinforcement. Second is retention, which is remembering, cognitive organization, and
symbolic coding. Third is the reproduction of image and self-observation of reproduction. Last is
a motivation which is having a good reason to imitate. (Social learning theory (Bandura), 2015).
Formal training is more structured and controlled by the designer of the course. Having a course
designed in this format does have benefits for the organization. Most employees will be exposed
to the same information in the same format avoiding misunderstandings. The benefits of having a
social learning course offered at From a Blessed Kitchen Restaurants would be that employees
would be less resistant to learning new things.
Through the use of social learning employees of the organization From a Blessed,
Kitchen will be able to meet the established goals of the company. One of the programs to be
used will be Yammer, which is very similar to Facebook or Twitter. Through this program,
employees will be able to improve their collaboration and personal learning as they can connect
with others during non-work hours. Another program to be used is TalkShoe, which is a service
that allows the user to join or listen to live interactive discussions, conversations, podcasts and
audio blogs. Through Talkshoe employees will demonstrate their progress as they engage with
others from distant places. Without the use of these programs for social learning employees
would not be able to engage with others while off duty or company premises. Also, employees
would not have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation with other from other parts
of the world limiting their social development (Social learning, 2015).
From a Blessed, Kitchen can benefit from many of the things that social learning has to
offer an organization. The main reason would be a constructive business influence. This includes
the benefit of the employees being able to control who they share information with and how they
share it. By employees having this control they will also take ownership of their education as
well. It also provides easy to use apps at all levels for all employees to use to personalize their
education. Another benefit for an organization is that social learning is inexpensive and will
allow the company to view the latest trends in their organization.

THE CASE FOR SOCIAL LEARNING

Several tools will be used during training to develop the social learning skill of all
employees. One of the programs is 24X7 Learn Trak. The 24X7 Learn Trax is a program that has
covered many countries and is known for its fast growth in eLearning. Next employees will learn
and work with Google Collaboration Tools. Google Apps for education will teach how to keep
your data safe and under your control. Another tool will be Grockit. This tool works with
personalizing the employees learning. It will also help to compensate for the learning strength
and weaknesses of the employee or team (Social learning, 2015).
These programs will be introduced to the personnel by formal workshops. These
workshops will be directed by coaches, and they will also provide support during the process.
Once the process has been put in place, it should increase employees desire to engage in the
learning opportunity. After employees have been trained, they will work independently and seek
support when needed. Through these independent workshops, employees will demonstrate
development in the areas assigned to a measurable outcome. The timing for success for each will
be determined individually as each student learns at a different pace. Each employee should
show progress by the first week of using a program. If not they should provide some evidence
that they are tracking their progress and support will be provided (Social learning, 2015).
Thank you very much for your time, and please feel free to contact our office at (321)
456-1234.
Sincerely,
Training Department, From a Blessed Kitchen Restaurants
