Directions:
Fill in the required portions of this document. Be sure to save it. You will submit this file with a
link to your soundscape.
1. The introduction includes just a few of the many ideas for soundscapes to get
you thinking creatively. Now it is your turn. Brainstorm a minimum of three
soundscape ideas in different content areas. You should treat this activity as if
you are the teacher. You are creating a project you would have your students
do. The soundscape you create will be an example that you can use in your
future pedagogy.

Content Area:
Reading and Writing
History
Science
Math

Soundscape Idea:
The students will read/write a poem and then create a
sound scape.
The student soundscape to express the industrial revolution.
Students will make the sounds that they would hear in the
Amazon Rainforest.
The students will use a soundscape to express their
understanding on infrasound. They could create the sounds
that they think those animals make that humans cannot
hear.
The students could also use a soundscape to express
subtraction. The students will determine the difference in
frequency by listening to the beat patterns.

1. Choose the idea you like the most. Write a brief summary of your idea.
a. The students will write a diamante poem to describe a setting.
b. The students will then create soundscapes using their poems. The students will
incorporate their poems into the soundscapes. The soundscape will bring a new
dimension to their poem, allowing the students to truly use sensory details in the
presentation of their poems. The goal is for the rest of the class to be able to create
a vivid mental image as a student shares the poem.
i. By having the students create a soundscape for their poem it is teaching
them about the connotation of the words. The students will have to use their
background knowledge or schema in order to determine which sounds to pair
with their poem.
ii. In addition, this could benefit ELLs because the soundscape will scaffold the
poems for them.
c. This will be a two to three week assignment. The first week, the teacher will model
writing the diamante poem and the students will then write their poems. The
second week, the teacher will model creating a soundscape for the students. Then,

the students will create the soundscape for their poems and once everyone is
finished they will share to the class.
